Today was already not a good day, my husband got called in for drill for the national guard, which means he has to miss our shower Sunday... but then I get an email from my midwife saying that my insurance has denied all coverage because they don't have an OB overseeing my pregnancy and birth. This means that we have to pay $3850 in 5 weeks versus the $1500 we had planned. Well the $1500 was already a stretch for us so there is basically no way for me to pay $3850 by then. I spoke to my mother who may be willing to help, but she wants to get through the baby shower before we start discussing this, and I need an answer before my next appointment on Tuesday.
It's looking like I'm going to have to switch back to a hospital birth with an OB, which I really don't want. I have been so happy since switching to my MW and can't even imagine having a birth in the hospital. (I've posted before about how they literally don't let you get up from the moment you get to L&D, or give you a choice of DCC and immediate skin to skin) this is not the birth I wanted, or that I feel is healthy for my baby. I know that the most important thing is a healthy baby, but I was really excited to get to experience birth my way.
Now everything just seems so hopeless and overwhelming.
Re: Insurance ruined my day... VENT
Switching back to an OB at 31 after switching to a midwife at 24 weeks sounds like a nightmare.
High cost or not though, I don't think its right to rely on your mom to pay it. That's a lot of money, and even asking is putting her in an awkward position. Maybe ask for a loan, but I definitely wouldn't expect anyone to help me pay for mine and DHs decisions...but then again, I make a point of being super independent so even asking for help if I truly needed it would be hard.
TFMC 08.02.13 at 19+ weeks. Everyday I grieve for my little Olive.
2. I have spoken to them about this, they really only do payment plans up to 36 weeks, but I might bring it up again because of the fact that I switched to them so late in my pregnancy.
3. The next closest hospital is an hour and a half away, I can look into them but odds are, I would end up at the hospital in my town anyway. =/
@cozybluebear that's a good idea. When I call my insurance I can ask! Thank you.
@11kacey I live so far from the hospital that I would be worried I wouldn't make it in time lol. I Seriously live in the boonies... XD
