Anthem blue cross and blue shield

Has anyone with blue access choice health insurance gotten their breast pump covered by insurance? I have gotten very confusing information about how to go about that, and am wondering if anyone knows for sure.

  • I have BC and ordered mine through Edgepark. 100% covered and I got it in two days.

  • I have BCBS of PA and after horrible phone calls with the insurance company, I just called one of their preferred DME providers and they answered all my questions and my pump arrived LITERALLY within 24 hours. I suggest asking Anthem who which DME providers you can order them and call one if them for assistance. They deal with this day in and out and no more about the process than the insurance reps that seem to only know how to read the screen and plans word for word.

  • A lot will depend on which plan you have, but it was really easy for me through them! I ended up sending them a message on my online account asking about their breast pump policies, and the response was detailed, and included the three medical supply companies I could go through with my specific plan. I went through Edgepark, and it was so easy and smooth.  I ordered it on 7/29, and it was delivered on 8/1!  The ordering was all done online, and they did all the communication with the Dr.'s office regarding the prescription for it (that may be different with other plans, though).
    Good luck!

Was it two days from when you ordered it or two days from when you faxed your prescription in (if you had to do that)?
I didn't need to fax a prescription at all. They called my provider and got the prescription after I submitted my order.

This was my exact experience. You also can go on to the medela website, if that's the brand you agree interested in, and they have a page where you can select your insurance and they list places you can order from that your insurance covers.

Can you post the link to that medela website page? I can't find it but that might be because I'm on their mobile site right now. Thanks!

  • I have Anthem bcbs. I called and got a lot of help but also I could've just gone to Byram Medical's website and entered my insurance info and selected which pump I wanted. They handled everything else, verifying my coverage and contacting my midwife for approval.

I was more than 30 days away from my EDD at the time so they held the order. I received it two days after getting into the 30 day window. Super. Super easy process.
