If this is what awareness looks like....

then we could all stand to be a little more aware. Mmmmmmmm, yummy six-pack ostomy abs! https://www.today.com/health/male-model-blake-beckford-poses-shirtless-ileostomy-bag-1D80024388?cid=social_20140806_29240336

I think this is kind of what I was trying to do with Luke's shirtless 1-yr pics (if you haven't seen them, PM me!). It's weird, when it's your child and it's not a matter of not being ashamed, it's a matter of not exposing things they may want to have control over disclosing later. But it's also weird when it's your child and you feel guilty about maybe being ashamed (not ashamed, but hesitant? but it feels guilty like being ashamed sometimes), but you're also worried about baring all and being subject to voyeurism and/or sensationalism.

This kid may not have a lot of bowel, but he has plenty of guts!
DS born at 34 weeks with (surprise!) gastroschisis turned short bowel syndrome.
131 days in the NICU, 7 trips to the OR, G-button, daily TPN....
We are impatiently awaiting the day we can say goodbye to his girlfriend Ivy for good.
