Pregnant after a Loss

Symptoms have really hit!

Today my symptoms have really hit. Hard. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining. I'll be sick all day, every day for the rest of this pregnancy if it means it'll lead to a baby. It's just that it makes the whole having to go to work thing kind of difficult. I've been feeling nauseous on and off pretty much since day one but today was the first day I actually puked. And I mean really puked. I was driving to work and managed to pull over just in time to puke all over myself. I then had to call into work and tell my boss what had just happened giving her 15 minutes notice. She really didn't seem sympathetic (understandably I guess seeing as I only gave her minutes notice). She basically said to go home, clean yourself up and you'll probably be fine to come in. I came home, cleaned myself up and then puked again, then again. I also realised at that point that my boobs actually hurt now and I have the worst headache. I got a text from boss lady saying "Haven't heard from you?" I replied "So sorry. Still throwing up." What does she want?! And what am I supposed to do? Basically, no I am not going in today, not after this puke fest and the fact that I feel achey, dizzy and all round gross. It's not like I can have a quiet day. I work in early childhood with 2-5 year olds and I rarely get to sit down. I'm constantly on my feet from the moment I walk in the door until the moment I get in my car to go home. It's a loud, busy, crazy environment. But I can't just not go in every day if this is what it's going to be like from now on! Ugh, I just wasn't prepared at all today. With my loss I never once felt nauseous or puked, ever. In fact the only symptoms I ever had were mildly sore boobs and gas. I kind of thought this pregnancy would be similar. I'm glad it's not of course but seriously this is going to be difficult. Ok rant over.

Re: Symptoms have really hit!

  • @starmile I haven't taken anything. I'm far too paranoid. I'm scared to even take Panadol (Tylenol) and just the thought of anything ginger makes me want to puke at the moment :( I know, I know I'm not really helping myself with this attitude. I did however have a grapefruit and lemon ice block this morning which made me feel a little better. I'll definitely keep on those. I'm also trying to keep my stomach full because I think I definitely feel worse if I haven't eaten.

  • So sorry your feeling so sick. I was also afraid to take anything this pregnancy I took Tylenol once because of a fever but never again. What helped me was the smell of lemons and hard candies. I hope you start tofeel better soon.

  • (((Hugs)))) Hope you find something that helps! I know how you feel about the drugs. Keep in mind that B6 is a vitamin that you are already getting in your prenatal. Maybe that is a good place to start?

  • My OB recommended honey straws. It literally takes a second to swallow it, and if you can keep it down for a couple minutes, it helps pop your blood sugar back up to help you not feel so sick. It worked really well for me. Also, Altoids. Regular plain peppermint Altoids saved my life during morning sickness. Even if they don't keep you from throwing up, at least you can fix your breath afterwards!

  • I'm so sorry :( morning sickness sucks! I found that sticking to just simple things to get through the waves of nausea was important: popcorn with olive oil and salt, sparkling water (I hated regular water for a while), orange juice over ice, and simple cheese quesadillas were my life savers. I also liked alcohol free ginger beer, but maybe stay away from that since ginger doesn't sound good to you right now.

I just came across this yesterday on Pinterest and pinned it for future reference because 1/2 way down it has some good tips for m/s that I didn't consider or know about: https://www.keeperofthehome.org/2012/08/taking-care-of-yourself-while-pregnant.html?utm_campaign=coschedule&utm_source=pinterest&utm_medium=Keeper of the Home (Natural baby care)

Especially that a deficiency in magnesium can exacerbate morning sickness - I had no idea! Anyways, I really hope you start feeling better soon.

  • Thank you ladies so much for all your sympathies and suggestions. I haven't actually puked today. I think the earlier I have to get up the worse I feel and seeing as it's Saturday here I didn't get up till 11.30am. I felt nauseous for the next hour or so but was never actually sick which is a bonus. I see a lot of you are suggesting hard candy which sounds very appealing so I'm gonna go find me some this afternoon :D
