NBR-My Strange Son

I don't really understand why but my 2yo has an aversion to meat. Any kind of meat. Put it on his plate and he won't eat it. I was worried at first but his ped reassured me that he is healthy and that it's nothing to worry about. It's still strange asking for only fruits and vegetables if we go out to dinner. Like last night to celebrate my little brothers 15th birthday. Luckily my brother wanted Ponderosa and they had plenty of cucumbers on hand. DS favorite.

  • Lol, he's a cutie. Well, at least he likes fruits and vegetables. Does he like beans and nuts? Wondering if you could supplement for the missing protein for now?

  • My friend's son is the same way. When he was a toddler he didn't like meat. He still doesn't and is a self declared vegetarian. He's 10 now and his mom prepares meat free meals for him to make sure he gets his protein. It's interesting since no one else in the family is vegetarian.
    Adorable little guy btw!!

  • Thanks! Don't tell him that though. He already thinks he's a lady killer. He loves baked beans. I think it's because DH makes them a little sweet. And peanut butter on just about every fruit he eats. For any big meal he will eat all the meatless sides. I've even gotten him to eat tofu miso soup and he loved it. Makes me wonder if this LO will be just like her brother in the eating department.
  • Yuo, what @Emerald27‌ said. My daughter and now my niece both did this. We just kept offering it and eventually she started eating it again.

  • DD doesn't really eat much meat either but she loves beans so we go with that. Cottage cheese, milk, yogurt, cheese - all of that serves as her protein. I think it's a texture issue for her too because she doesn't want to have to chew anything too long. She'll put meat in her mouth and chew it for minutes before deciding she doesn't "like it" and spits it out. Clearly it's not a flavor thing.

She is growing like a weed and so I try not to stress.

Well, my DS won't eat meat OR veggies so there you go! I'm totally screwed! I have to put it all in smoothies and hide it :)

Now I am thinking of meat smoothies and reminded of the time my BF in high school got in a motorcycle accident, had his jaw wired shut for a month, and asked me to make him a big mac smoothie... I did it, but ew.

  • He's SO cute!

And I'm jealous that he loves his veggies. DS wouldn't eat meat until about 2 1/2 and now he is a carnivore, to the max. He is obsessed with chicken, steak, turkey, etc. but wouldn't eat a raw veggie for his life!
Thank you! He's really close to 3 now, just a month away. I figured it would change. I'm thinking maybe he's going to be like me. I don't eat a lot of meats. Turkey, chicken, fish. When I was pregnant with him I had a meat aversion. Just the smell made me sick.

We put lots of spinach in smoothies. DS doesn't even care. He knows it's in there and likes to help make the smoothies. You really can't taste it. He calls it adding the "leaves." :P
