Are birthing classes hospital specific?

We are going to deliver at Piedmont and have already signed up for breast feeding and CPR there but are considering doing birthing at Northside because their weeknight classes will fit into our schedule better.

Any pros or cons to this.  I am worried that they are going to go over hospital specifics that we won't need if we go to northside.

  • I'm not sure.. I took a birthing class through an independent company... I don't think it really mattered, but my doctor had a different method of pushing than I learned in class.  Again, not really a big deal though.  I think you'd be fine.

  • I took trhough the Better Birth Foundation... I'm not sure of the website, just google it.  We both really got a lot out of the class, and we definitely used some of the techniques we learned through labor (breathing, massage, etc).

  • The birthing class at Piedmont was FANTASTIC. If you can help it, do not skip it. The nurses that ran this class were wonderful and I got more info from that one class than I did the four books I read during my pregnancy (Ina May Gaskin's included).

I highly, highly recommend Piedmont's childbirth class. When I took it, it was a one day, all-day class and it was totally worth it. The nurses at Piedmont are fabulous and the class was too.

  • Also, I took hypnobirthing classes. I wanted a completely natural childbirth and the class at Piedmont jived with everything I'd been working toward. The discussion was open and frank and they didn't push any type of childbirthing method on you.

Hi Myrall!  Can I ask you how the hypnobirthing went for you?  I took that class also and I am really interested in using this method for my first baby.  How did everything work out for you?:)
