Trouble TTC

Apparently I am a non-responder.

Hi everyone,

I haven't been here for a bit- I took a bump break and tried not to stress so much. After Clomid did nothing good for me, I tried Letrozole. It did not work for me, at all. I didn't trigger because I went on vacation (even though the nurses/doctors assured me I should be able to trigger well before vacation started...but I guess I am ultra slow to respond), and bloodwork recently confirmed I didn't ovulate.

So, I'm moving onto injects and IUI. I haven't done either before- the only shot I've given myself in the past was a trigger shot. I'm a bit nervous.

At my RE's practice, you have to take a class before going to injects. The class is on August 12. My LMP started July 11, so I'm worried I'll start my period before the class (you usually start injects on day 2 or 3, right?). I'm wondering if it's worth asking my doctor if I can take a couple days of BCP to delay my period, or just let things happen naturally and hope for the best. My cycles are long/irregular even with meds (and totally absent without them) so I don't even know when to expect CD1.

Frustrated at my stubborn, stubborn body that doesn't want to ovulate even with massive oral meds, and my long-ass cycles which just means more waiting.

  • I'm sorry you're not responding, but hopefully the injects will help!

I would definitely call and ask, not IF you can do that but HOW they would recommend you do it so you can start a cycle. I'd hate to miss a whole cycle because cd 1 was only a couple days off.

I've found with my office if I don't ask/suggest something they maybe don't realize that's what I want and don't mention it. As soon as I suggest it though they are very accommodating. Good luck!

  • Sorry you didn't respond. I know the "frustrated with my stupid stubborn body" routine all too well.

Since your bloodwork came back that you didn't ovulate, are they still expecting you to have AF? The one time I didn't O at all they had to give me provera to kick start my cycle.

  • I'd ask about the BCPs, too.  Also, my clinic isn't strict about the injects class.  If you are just using a pen, it's easier than an Ovidrel injection.  We actually never took the class.

And the injects aren't so bad.  Any idea what you'll be on?  I use Gonal F and the needles are so lovely.  I don't know if they use Menopur on an IUI cycle typically, but that crap burns.

  • I know how frustrating that can be. I've been anovulatory for a long time and it fucking sucks. My advice to everyone today is have some wine. I'll be drinking with you :)

  • I'd probably say something like "Hey RE's office answering person! Lupineaura here. So, listen. I'm super excited for this mandatory class thing I have to take. The problem is, there is a chance that my period may come prior to the class and we're really not interested in missing the opportunity to make the most of the next cycle. I'm sure you understand. So, I've decided that taking BCPs for a few days will give me a bit more control over my cycle. If you could call or fax in a script to my pharmacy, that'd be great. They're phone number is {insert} and the fax is {insert}. Thanks so much!" I can't imagine they'd object.
THIS  100%.  I also agree that it sucks so hard when your body just fights you every step of the way it seems.  Good luck.
  • Thank you all so much for your advice and support! Love all you ladies.

I called my RE's office and when the nurse called me back, I tried to channel my inner Ketchup but alas, no BCPs for me. There was logic behind why, but I got confused and the nurse got a bit frustrated, so I admit I finally agreed to call if I got my period and come in for an appt at that time. She also said if I don't get my period by class time they will run a beta (which seems unnecessary and will probably bum me out) and then go from there.

In their defense, the doctors and nurses there are usually pretty great and accommodating to my requests, so I didn't fight TOO hard. She also seemed confident I wouldn't "waste" a cycle.

I don't feel PMS-y, so hopefully CD1 holds out until at least Sunday.

    Thanks again!
