January 2015 Moms

is it a good idea???

I'd like to know if I pay for an elective to specifically see my baby and find out the gender (I will be 16 weeks and some days when I go take it)
Are the odds more for me or against me?
Do you think it's a good idea? Or should I just wait for September when I'm 20 weeks...?

It's my first baby, I haven't seen a u/s since I was 8 weeks and I just am really anxious.

Any opinions will help me calm down and make a more educated decision.
My boyfriend is the one who suggested it and I've been bouncing off the walls excited since.

Re: is it a good idea???

  • Do what you want girl.
I had one at 16 weeks, it was clear what I was having. They tend to be pretty accurate after 16 weeks.

  • I think it's definitely worth it! The gender part is fun, but I like to see baby. I am doing an elective one tomorrow and hubs and I are making a date out of it and going to dinner afterward. Hopefully baby will cooperate and give us a good shot.

  • @LaBellaVida‌ Thanks, I was super excited but if you say the gender is easier to tell past 16 weeks I feel I should go see cause I just want to know so bad :)
  • Hey welcome to my world. This is my First as well and I have decided to take the dive and do a private ultrasound appointment to find out the sex. The place I am going to does 3D/4D and normal 2D scans. They stated that I am far enough along that they can gaurantee they will be able to tell me the sex of the baby. They also stated that in the event that they can't they will allow me to come back in for free. I asked them about the fact that I am only 16 wks and a couple of days, they said they do scans for sex as early as 14 weeks. In the event that they don't get the sex right they have a 1000 dollar pay out.

With that being said I don't think, personally, that it is a bad thing to go earlier than your A/S is scheduled. Mine is not till Aug 28th. I think its personal preference. Its understandable your excited! I am as well that is why i have a scan scheduled in like a week.

If it makes you feel any better your Dr. will just confirm it in september. Hopefully, they conclude the same as the other place.

    Good Luck!

  • If you've got extra money to throw at it, go for it. I didn't regret it, it was money well spent.
    Good luck.

  • I did it and it was great.
  • @MichaelSC28‌ thanks so much!! I'm glad we are in the same boat ! By my docs information I'm 15 weeks 1 day today, so next week I'll go to the place that my boyfriend suggested and hopefully they have the same guarantee I'd be disappointed if they said they couldn't see it or anything like that... feeling like it was a waste of time or money...
  • Thanks for all the support!!! I'm getting more confident :) 16 weeks is so close I can taste it!!!!
  • Usually those places will offer to have you come back another day if they are unable to determine the sex for you.

    Just ask.

  • Shop around, I had a freak out and went to one of those places because I was about to go for genetic testing but had to pay oop because out a high deductible. After I did the just a peek session for $20, which was well worth it, they offered an gender/sex scan for $50, which also came with a coupon for $50 of a 4d ultrasound later...so basically if you were going to do a 4d scan later, finding out boy or girl was free.
  • We did this time and found out gender.
  • Up to you. For me, there was nothing about knowing the sex 4 weeks earlier that was worth $100 or however much, but that's your choice.
  • I will be finding out what my twins are in only four days! :) I will be 16w2d. Although I don't think I would pay to see it any earlier, if you want to then go for it!
  • I chose an elective u/s myself.  Mostly because the a/s failed the find the sex, and I couldnt wait until 30 weeks to find out.  I was worried the u/s place wouldnt be able to tell either, but they have a statement that if they cant tell, you can come back for free.  If it hadnt been almost a 2 hour drive away from where I live, I would have gone even before the a/s.

  • I would spend the money on myself. Massage, facial, something nice.

    You found out the sex.

Yeah, I know, people are rolling their eyes at my choice to bring this up, but you've been here long enough to know the difference.

Or maybe she just doesn't buy into the bump's philosophy of being politically correct? And yeah, major eye rolling.

I found out my daughter was a girl at 15 weeks. The tech was pretty sure of it. My husband convinced me to have another elective u/s last weekend. I was 16 weeks. The tech was pretty sure that it's another girl

If by "being politically correct" you mean "being sensitive to others," yeah, I would agree that she doesn't buy into that.
