Pregnant after IF

Looking for success stories with "poor" quality embryos

Hey ladies.  I am currently in the 2ww (2dp5dt) of my first IVF cycle.  We retrieved 13 eggs, 8 fertilized and on day 3 all looked great.  By day 5, 4 arrested and we had 4 grade 1 (scale of 0-8 where 0 is the worst and 8 is the best) blastocytes.  We transferred 2 because they were considered "poor" quality.  We found out today that the other two did not grow enough to freeze.  So, all our eggs are in one basket as we cannot afford another IVF cycle right now.  So, I'm looking for hope.  Any success stories with "poor" quality or grade 1 transfers?
Me 27 DH 29 Married since 2007, together since 2001
Off BC since Febuary 2006 3 Clomid Cycles in 2008- symptomatic, US just showed a tilted uterus, otherwise normal, HSG normal.  DH has an ejaculatory duct obstruction and a congenital absence of the vas deferens.  This is common with cystic fibrosis carriers, but he doesn't have cystic fibrosis. IVF #1 with TESE/ICSI (Antagonist protocol) Aug 2014=BFN (poor embryo quality)   IVF #2 ICSI long lupron protocol November 2014

  • Thanks for sharing your story.  It does help me remain hopeful to know others got pregnant with similar situations.  :)

  • Hey! We had a complete fertilization failure with IVF #1. They weren't entirely sure if it was an egg issue or a sperm issue but there was SER aggregates & the shell of the eggs were thick. They did a RISCI, from what I hear most clinics won't even try this as the likelihood of success is so low with RISCI. They usually call the cycle a loss and do immediate ISCI the next time out. Anyway, we ended up doing a 3DT (or 4DT from time of retrieval, RISCI is performed a day late), we transferred 3 which was wild as we only planned on a SET going into IVF but were given a 7% chance of a live birth with the 3 due to the very low potential of RISCI embryos. We weren't given grading on any of them as it was too early. I believe 2 were 10 cell, 1 was 8. Started out with a twin pregnancy and ended up with our DS who is now 16 months. Hang in there, there is no rhyme or reason to these things sometimes why the work! & I will say from what we learned from our first IVF we were able to make changes to the 2nd so things were a lot smoother. MY RE says that sometimes the first IVF is like a very expensive diagnostic tool.

  • I was in the same boat as @deardra77 and had total fert failure with rescue isci. We transferred an 8 cell and a 6 cell, got a speech from the RE that "we wouldn't try if it NEVER worked, but it isn't hopeful." DS is now 17 months old. Keep the faith! If there's a good home inside you, that can jumpstart growth more than cell culture in a lab. FX for you!
