I am super excited, this little girl has been treating my stomach like a tiny room with all the kicking and stretching you would think she was doing demolition, i cant believe im still okay. I want to know if she is going to be big like DS he was a chunky little thing. Has any one had their due date adjusted based on baby size?

Re: growth u/s tomorrow

  • My due date based off of conception is 10/23, but measurements yesterday produced a date of 10/11.  My MFM very rarely adjusts due date based on size, and my EDD remains 10/23.

5 cycles of "TTC" - 3 intentional, 2 not so intentional.  5 BFPs.  My rainbow arrived 10/15/14.

  • Most docs don't adjust due date based on size in the second half of pregnancy. Babies grow at varying rates in late 2nd and 3rd tri, so you may see baby just before or just after a growth spurt on the ultrasound. Baby's weight right now doesn't necessarily have any power of prediction for his/her birth weight.

Basically, they're due date is based on their AGE (not size), and their weight just determined what part of the percentiles curve they'll represent.

Yep - also, long limbs or head circ do not mean that organ systems are fully developed, so adjusting based on measurements (and are estimates anyway) that are highly variable is not always wise.

At my last u/s, baby was measuring big in size but her abdomen and my fundal height were measuring on time. Like PPs stated, they don't usually adjust the due date based on growth since some babies are naturally bigger than others at birth. Just listen to see if your baby is big/on time/small on all measurements or just on some.

  • It's also just hard to get an accurate weight prediction via u/s, because they're using averages of bone lengths to guess baby's weight. It's entirely possible (and fairly common) for the tall and lean baby with long limbs to actually weigh less than the short and chubby baby with short little limbs. Tummy circ helps but not THAT much.
