Need advice!!! ALS ice bucket challenge question

Many of you may have seen videos posted on Facebook where people are dumping ice water on their heads to help raise awareness and money for ALS.

This morning my friend called on me to participate. I am be overthinking this over the course of the day, but I want to make sure it is safe to do since I am still in my first trimester. I dont want to shock my body and run the risk of causing a miscarriage (I dont even know if this is possible, but I just want to be careful since this is my first baby). I dont have a history of miscarriages, and I am probably just overthinking this.

Any advice is appreciated! Thank you for your time and input :)

Re: Need advice!!! ALS ice bucket challenge question

  • I think you are over thinking this... you can use a smaller bucket if that would make you feel better. I just did it and it is cold, but doesn't shock your system. You should be fine!

  • Thank you @kir1000! I was thinking that I was, but then my dad kept asking me if it was safe. I think I will use a smaller bucket. Great idea!
  • As long as you don't plan on soaking in it for any length of time, I think your risk of hypothermia and miscarriage is 0. You should be good! :-)

  • I think you'd be just fine, but if you're worried just fill the bucket mostly full of warm water and just and the ice right before you film. It'll look like ice water but won't "shock" your system! ;)

  • @StephanieLBerg and @CHickenonsunday Thank you ladies! I thought about the warm water idea too @kbelly777. I didnt want to say it out loud in fear that people might think its 'cheating' lol. I will have to post how it goes tonight!

  • I've done it but it was for childhood cancer. I dont remember it needing to be iced water.... Just water. Either way wouldn't worry about a small amount.

  • As long as the water doesn't have any listerine in it you should be fine...
    :D

I second the warm water suggestion, good luck!
