Receptionist/admins come and complain

My complaint is, if someoen called you and LEFT you a voice mail why the hell would you call and ask ME who called you. Don't tell me oh I'll go and listen to the voice mail and then call you back.   LISTEN TO THE DAMN VOICE MAIIL IN THE FIRST TIME!!

Re: Receptionist/admins come and complain

  • Preach on sister!

I don't have a fucking clue who called you!  They don't come out and tell me every time they dial the damned phone.  Hell, 1/2 the time I don't even know who is here because the sneak in/out the back door.

  • My complaint, just because I answered the phone and am female does not mean I am the female you wish to speak to.  There are more than 1 here.  Don't just start rattling off info about your order to me, I don't have a clue what you are talking about and frankly I just don't care.

  • We have a sign out sheet do you think they sign out, NOPE.
  • Or can I speak the John?  Ok, we have a 150 people here, and more than one john.....
  • We are a 26 person company and still have 3 Mikes, 2 Alexes & 2 Chrises.  At one point we also had 2 Steve W's and 2 Jims.

  • Get yo shit together people!  Hahahaha
  • Wow that's not good.  Someone had their hands folded under their ass.
  • I wish I could love tit OP more than once. That is my number one work pet peeve. I always ask, "Did they leave a message?" and the response is almost always "Oh, I didn't check."

One time I tried to help a guy out and find out who called him, but he flat out refused to tell me what his name was until I told him who called him. Um, can't do that unless you tell me your name. I ended up having to hang up on him.
WTF.  Did he think a swam of cops was going to descend onto him if he gave you his name.  LOL

  • Oh, also people who have their wives/mothers call for them. Bonus points if they are in the background telling mom/wife what to say.
Ohhhh I've never gotten that.  You mean like calling out sick?  I just email my supv, LOL
  • I work in an admin position but it's specialized and different from the admin assistant. Just because I am also a woman in a male dominated office doesn't mean I know anything about her job! If I answer the phone instead of her they always say, "maybe you can help me" and then go on and on about some forms she sent. Nope, no idea what you're talking about.

  • I normally only really work for the big boss, but since my only co-worker left, I'm working for the entire family and the wife and son drive me batty.

She forwards emails to me and then asks me to print them.  JUST PRINT THEM YOURSELF.
OMG that hysterical.  In general, not hysterical for you.  Please, please, tell me this woman is like 70.  I had a boss who I'm not joking, got mad if you didn't dot your i

No, not coworkers. People calling in for various things. The problem is the majority of the time, the wife or mom have no idea what they are talking about so there isn't much help I can give them.
You get some dumb-assed people calling in.  LOL  I've never heard of phone social phobia.

    She is close to 70.

My coworker had no patience for her.  I am much more patient, but sometimes I go back there in a huff and show her how to do it.  She never remembers though.

It's not excuse, but her being 70 makes me feel a little better. LMFAO  My mother is in her 60's just heard about dropbox and thinks it's the best thing in the world.  LOL
  • I don't know if I mentioned this before, but I used to work for the billing end of an adult party line.  When I first started it was the overnight shift 12am-9am.  Most of the calls were to set up accounts and a few that dialed incorrectly.  I could tell some tails (pun word intended.) ;) :-\"

    Please do!

I work for a government agency and get people calling to report crimes. It can be pretty interesting.

  • Thank god I don't have to do supplies anymore. I always kept a plastic file bin under my desk with spare boxes just in case.
  • @chickenonsunday, RUN, don't walk to the nearest unemployment office and sign up.  OMG I could not work for that woman.

    I do that now too

  • How about when they run out of a supply and ask you for some right them even though they never asked you to order said supply
OMG yes. "Do we have any more dry erase markers?" You are the one that uses them, you tell me.
This is why I put a BIG note in the supply closet that says "If you take the last of something please tell msdrdg".  That way when we are out of something and I didn't know, I can tell them to suck it up because it isn't my problem.

I love the question, Do you know where Such and Such place is?  I'm the receptionist, not mapquest.
This too. A woman called in and ranted at me once because I couldn't tell her what buses came by here and what their schedules were. Let me get right on learning all the bus schedules in the state...
I'd be like MBTA.com, look it up!  Mass Bay Trans Auth

People are supposed to let me know when they need something ordered. A bunch of the things they use aren't kept in the supply closet so there is no way to keep tabs.
    Oh, I see.

I saw an ad for my old job yesterday and briefly considered applying. I miss the actual company so much, but my boss was a fucking nightmare. I had constant migraines from the stress of working under her. It looks like they've restructured some and I wouldn't report directly to her anymore, but the commute was terrible. I'm rambling.

  • I've worked for a cable construction company for 8 years (only job I've ever had). We've received SO many calls from stupid people who don't know what a right-of-way is. Of course, being a utility company, our crews are digging in the ROWs to bury the fiber. But people think it's their property and they didn't give us permission to tear it up, etc. So then who ever answers the phone is the one getting bitched at.

Oh, then back when I was the receptionist I got a call because the guys were IN THE ROAD smoking, and that was harming the lady's baby because she opened her door. Dude, the road is public property. Close the fucking door if you don't want to smell it.

This is how it is for me. I try to keep inventory on what I can though

  • I did my time as an admin assistant and love my job now, but at my last job my boss' motto was "do what I think not what I say". Not kidding. He would tell me that in front of other people too, he was completely serious. This thread is priceless though, even if it is giving me war flashbacks. Hats off to you ladies still fighting the good fight!!
