Just went for my first ultrasound (3rd child). I'm 17 weeks and 4 days. The tech kept saying "don't worry if they ask you to come back in a couple of weeks, they just might want a better look". I found this strange as I hadn't heard it with my other 2 pregnancies, but I chalked it up to the tech's individual personality. An hour later I go to my OB appt and she says "We need to talk. Do short fingers or curved pinky fingers run in your family?" I said no for both of us. She said that meant we needed to do Maternal Fetal Medicine. She said the she didn't know if the tech got a bad pictures, but the baby's fingers look short and that sometimes is a signal of a genetic abnormality. I asked her, obviously shocked, what she was talking about and which abnormalities. She said it could be something as simple as a bad picture to something as much as Down's Syndrome.
So now that I'm significantly freaked out and depressed has anyone else had this happen to then or said to them? I have no idea what to think and my "special" appointment isn't for another 2 weeks. :-(
