Has anyone bought a crib from Ikea ?

Their website suggests that you buy and use one of their mattresses for them. The dims on the Ikea crib mattress are 27 1/2 x 52 "

Other crib mattresses I have looked up online have dims of 27.25 x 51.625". Not much of a difference, but maybe that makes the gap between the mattress and the side of the crib bigger if you don't use an Ikea mattress.

Thinking about getting a crib and mattress from Ikea.........but then thought about the crib sheets........I don't think thats enough of a size difference that it would keep me from using any standard crib sheet.

If anyone has bought an Ikea crib, were you happy or disappointed in it ?

I just bought my crib and mattress from ikea! I'm very happy with it. Although baby isn't here yet so I might not be the best person to answer this question - I can't see any problems with the ikea cribs and mattresses! Way more affordable than most places too.

I think ikea has crib mattresses too, right? If there is a difference I would just stick with their stuff. It sucks that they make theirs just a little smaller though

Lurking...but shoot, I didn't see that. We have an IKEA crib still in the box, but I was going to get a mattress elsewhere. I will be watching to see if anyone here has used an IKEA crib without their mattress. I would have to get it shipped and should order soon.

Yeah we have an IKEA crib (I'm not into big bulky furniture so I LOVE it!). We used a standard size mattress purchased from somewhere else, no problem at all an it is tight fitting and use standard crib mattress sheets. We will be buying a 2nd IKEA crib for the new LO too.

Ikea also has awesome waterproof sheets for mattress too. They are just like a rectangle you put under the sheet rather than fitted around the mattress. We bought several of these and layered sheet, waterproof protector, sheet protector etc so for middle of the night leaks its quick & easy to just strip down one layer and be done & not have to put on new sheets etc. Love their diaper tables too, we bought a couple to have in different areas of the house and makes life so much easier!

So I've been looking at their cribs. Are any of them 3 in1 or do you just have buy a toddler bed when LO gets bigger?

I didn't notice that any were 3 in 1. I was looking at a crib online from wal mart, and tried to find the extra pieces to order to "convert" it, and they were nowhere to be found.....I kinda like how the Ikea cribs just let you take one of the sides off for it to work as a toddler bed.

@deardra77 Thats such a brilliant idea to layer the waterproof mattress protectors with the fitted sheets! I am soooo doing that!

I was going to buy an Ikea crib until the bed rail in my Ikea bed (in our master bedroom) fell out (gave me a nasty bruise and wrenched my back for three weeks!). When we asked them to replace the frame, since we'd had it only one year, they basically called my husband a liar and said we'd have to bring it in for them to inspect. It's a king bedframe, how am I supposed to get it to them?? I was completely turned off by their customer service -- plus I don't want my kid falling because the bottom of the crib falls out.

@silverwings72 - I'm not sure if any of them are 3in1 but we got DD the Hensvik crib and it came with a panel to remove one side of the crib and turn it into a toddler bed, so technically it would be a 2in1 I guess. We would still need to get a bedrail though, so she doesn't fall out.

We put a pool noodle under the fitted sheet for DD, and it worked great at keeping her in bed. Might not work for all kids, but it is a cheap alternative!

Any opinions on which ikea crib would look best for a boy's room with the theme of robots/stars/moon? Is the hensvik more feminine looking?

@silverwings72, we got the Sundvik crib. It comes in three colors and converts to a toddler bed. We're team green, but we chose this one under the assumption that it would suit a boy OR girl nursery, and we just liked the design. I also loved the Gonatt in gray.

My in laws are taking us to Ikea to get the crib and other nursery furniture. I'm glade I read this post. We are getting the white crib and changing table. The crib is only $129 & the changing table is $35! Which seems like a good deal and my other 2 kids never used their cribs as anything but cribs. So the 2 in 1 is fine with me.
Does anybody know if the have crib sheets there or bumpers? U have the crib set in Dinosaurs from amazon but I need sheets and bumpers that match and so far I can't find any.

Umm please don't buy bumpers, not sure where you live but in most places they don't sell them because you are not to use them.

Yes! Please do some research before buying bumpers. Mesh are supposed to be the most safe.

Target has nice mesh bumpers...or crib liners I think they call them. They are $30 and come in several colors.
I am getting one of these and several fitted crib sheets. No other fancy schmancy stuff for the crib.
