velamentous cord insertion

Just wondering if anybody else has or has had experience with a velamentous cord insertion? I just hit 25wks today and I'm getting more and more anxious! My mom has had both a miscarriage and stillbirth. I've already had a miscarriage so I can't help but having a small fear of having a stillbirth. Right now baby is in 51% percentile so growth is going well. Next US will be at 32wks.

Re: velamentous cord insertion

  • I don't have personal experience, but I have professional experience with it. I've seen 3 cases of it and 2/3 were healthly babies. Since you know about the cord insertion and you're being monitored for it is good. The close monitoring gives you a better chance of having a healthy baby. Good luck!

  • Thanks! I know, knowing about it is one of the most important things! I just know I am going have to make some tough decisions when it gets closer. I was hoping for a natural birth. But right now baby is actually breach and with the cord the way it is the doc said he's not comfortable trying to flip baby so that means a c-section. He also said there is a risk of the cord tearing off before the placenta comes out so that means anesthesia so they can manually remove it! But I think I'm most scared of the thought of worrying about baby while I'm laboring with a natural birth and having to possibly make some serious fast last minute decisions! Thanks for listening just putting my thoughts down often helps me worry a little less!
  • I don't have any personal experience with this, but T&P for you and your little one!!
