Changing diaper w/o waking baby

How do you do it? Last night LO pooped right at the end of nursing while she was sleeping- this has never happened. She used to just poop every few days now it's all the time! So I went to change her diaper and tried to do so quickly and gently but she woke up and was wide awake! I tried for 15 minutes to get her back down before I called in DH and it took him about 20 min. Im hoping this is a short phase but if not....any tricks to doing this without waking?

  • Like pp said. Go slow and warm the wipe in your hands prior to cleaning. I don't talk to him, make eye contact, and keep the lights dim. He rarely wakes. FFTC: if he poops and it's like an hour or so before wake up, I just leave it be.
  • Everything @AprilMay9‌ said. Also, I change her wherever she already is. If after nursing in my bed, I change her there. If she poops right after I put her down, I change her there. As little movement as possible. It's a little tricky at times, but I'll do whatever I can to keep her asleep!
  • I've actually changed DD diaper while hanging over her on the changing table breastfeeding her.  It worked and she stayed asleep until the very end!  Just make sure everything is within reach.
  • My LO poops in his sleep every night, has since he was born. I still haven't figured out the easiest way to change him without sleep disruption. Thankfully he does go right back to sleep.

  • Good tips including the one to not change it!
  • So glad for this post! My little guy pooped when we put him down tonight, so I'm feeding on one boob then gonna try the change & hopefully pop him back on the other boob. Fingers crossed he stays asleep!
