Yet again...

Another movement post. Sorry, I just have a quick question as a first timer and thought it might get lost in all the other movement threads.

I'm 17 weeks today. I started noticing movement last week and if I poked him he would hit or kick me back, for the most part. It was really reassuring! Now, starting Monday, my life has been really crazy and I've been all over the place. I can't get him to respond to my pokes! He still moves, I feel him. Just not as often. But he isn't "kicking" in response to my pokes.

I'm sure it's normal, and I don't want to sound like a paranoid first timer, but realistically, that's what I am! I'm thinking it's because it's just too early and he happened to be in the right spot to respond to my pokes before. Thoughts?

Re: Yet again...

  • Don't be worried! My first baby moved early but it was sporadic until about 21 weeks. They are still small at this point and it's definitely still early for much of a response. :)

Thanks @sanbry‌ ! I couldn't help but think I may have overwhelmed him. It was a really stressful weekend at work and then I have been on the go since then. Since he can now officially hear me I keep asking him to move, as of he knows what that means!
  • It will be sporadic, especially in the beginning. When I was pregnant with DS, DH listened to my stomach with a stethoscope, and he would push back sometimes. I forget how often, but ask your doctor at your next appointment because at some point (20+ weeks), you will start feeling kicks regularly. My friend's doctor asked her to count and make sure she felt x kicks per day, but I don't think my doctor ever gave me a number.

Babies are funny. They do the quickening and at some point shortly after, start sleeping longer. Try laying down and being real quiet for 30 mins and you should feel something. (Usually bedtime for me.)

I attempted this last night and was out like a light with in ten minutes! :)

He's moving now as I sit quietly at my desk. I can feel him more in the middle and a little lower when he was responding more at my side before.

Thanks! We actually get to see him again next Thursday for our a/s! So excited! We got in on the earlier side (18 weeks to the day) because of our NT scan results. Even though we got great news back with our Harmony test they allowed us to keep our appointment with MFM.
  • I'm a FTM as well and have been experiencing some of the same nervousness. I can't get him to respond at all when I poke, but I do feel some taps throughout the day, and usually right after I eat. I'm going to chalk it all up to me being "overweight" and having a little extra cushion in there for him until I'm told otherwise. Also, I'm going to be asking about it at my next appointment with the Midwife where I'll be almost 20w.

@WillCMyInk‌ my mom continues to point out that since I've been so busy and moving all day I'm "rocking him to sleep." I live for the sporadic movements!

Don't fret.  Soon enough you will be able to feel barrel rolls in there and then a little later be able to not only feel the movement but SEE it.

  • When I hadn't felt my baby in a while i would put an ice pack on my belly and she would start squirming like crazy, but that was with #1. I haven't tried it with this one, it might still be too early to work.
