Does anyone work from home?

Re: Does anyone work from home?

  • My DH does.  He's a vice president program manager at a major bank.

  • I can work from home 2 days a week, but I prefer to just go in to the office. We do have some people that live in other states that work from home full-time. I'm a computer programmer.

  • I do fairly often. I have an office, but the network connection is more reliable at home (plus there's A/C and no dress code), so I usually just go in if I need a hard file or something. I travel quite a bit, too, so also end up working remotely from various other places.
  • I actually am in need of a job right now. Currently lost my job and with being pregnant the odds are not in my favor
  • I work from home exclusively (except for business trips, of course).  There is no office near me.  I am a Services Manager for a computer software company.

    Good luck!

I have a few friends who WFH, one works for a company called VIP desk.  I think she sets up travel and stuff for business execs.  She's says she's a "Personal concierge".

OK.  Well, good luck on your job search?  Not quite sure what you're looking for here...

  • I do I work for a call center, it's for a credit counseling/housing agency. I think a lot of call centers have jobs from home now. I know U Haul has stay at home jobs now.
  • There's a site called flex jobs. If you have experiences with banking you might want to look into a company called First Data. They're known for WFH jobs!
  • I do. My hubby and I run an online store selling comic books. I am planning on starting a line of superhero baby items that I can knit, crochet, or sew. I am also a thirtyone consultant (but that is more for the discount) I only do catalog parties.
  • Thanks ladies! I'm just trying to see if anyone knew anything I can do from home so that everything doesn't crumble around me

  • I WFH three days a week. I'm a grad student working on my dissertation and my job is only part time on campus. Most of the work I do at home is writing.

    What do you do?
    Oh, yeah. Environmental Compliance ...
    Specialist? Coordinator? Manager? Whatever.
I complete compliance assessments, maintain programs, liaison between agencies, develop and implement corrective action plans and stuff for about three dozen USAR/AFRC facilities in two states.
  •  I do! I work two jobs from home.

The first is more of a hobby, I work as a sub contractor and edit for a small web company 10 hours a week. I've done this for 3 years or so.

Once I left teaching (I used to teach 1st grade but wanted to stay home with DD) I got a job for a local startup web company. I am on their member care team and I help manage accounts. I work 25 hours or so and can do everything from home on my computer. I go into the office once every 2 months or so. It's amazing.

  • I can WAH if I want to.  (And have been this week!  Except for today...  I will go into our office.  There are a few things I need to get...)

As for what I do?   I am now concentrating 100% on my business (manufacturing overseas...  and then importing and exporting).  I quit my day job at a non profit a couple of months...  and I couldn't be happier.   The only thing I miss are the extended health and dental benefits.  They were awesome.

Lots of credit card companies have WFH customer service positions.

  • I work from home exclusively with one weekly business trip a month to my customer site. I'm a Service Delivery Manager for an IT company.
I really think we are bump soulmates.  I have the same type job and we both take lovenox.  Enough proof for me.  ::bumpswoon::

  • I mostly work from home. I am a photographer. I have a studio where I do my sessions and I do the editing at home.

  • DH does daily and I do on occasion. We're both in IT.
  • Yes, I'm a freelance writer (for magazines and websites) and translator, but I worked in publishing in NYC for 14 years before going freelance to get experience and contacts. It's not an easy road. I work harder and make less money, but I'm happier.

  • P.s I'd like to add that working from home does not translate into me being able to take care of a baby anytime I want. I have a demanding job and am On calls often. There are few things more frowned upon than a crying baby or dog barking in the background in my world. We will have to hire someone part time to watch our little guy so I can actually work. I think it's often a misguided notion that people who work from home have complete freedom. There are definitely perks (no commute & working in pj's) but it takes discipline too.
This exactly!  I am putting my little one in daycare the days I work.  Not even trying to work with that sweetness in my house!

  • I work from home as a conference Coordinator. I handle two conferences per years and my workload varies daily but keeping in mind my oldest two is in school full time. I am debating reducing to one conference or keep both because of the LO. I would need to find a part time babysitter or daycare, adjust my schedule dramatically so I can handle both a baby and my work. Work at home with a baby is not easy and requires a lot of multitasking plus my traveling...

Work from home is not what it seems to be. It takes a lot of dedication, multitasking, scheduling, and a lot of patience.
