Celebrating our last baby free weekend

So at 39w2d, cervix is still closed and not experiencing contractions or back pain. After interpreting every little thing as a possible sign of pending labor for the last 2 weeks (and listening to my coworkers and DH's coworkers say "I think today is the day"..,,,for 2 weeks), I am now making peace with the fact that DS is most likely going to arrive by induction next week.

Instead of dwelling on why he is not here yet or on all these insane aches/pains of late pregnancy, DH and I decided that we would celebrate our very last "baby free weekend". Instead of remaining in a 1 mile perimeter of the house waiting for contractions to appear or leaky fluid, we will be heading to the movies (w000t guardians of the galaxy, anyone??) and enjoying a yummy meal (or three) at a non baby/kid friendly restaurant. Of course, however, if DS decides to make an early appearance, we are 100% okay with that too :-)

Did anyone else do or plan to do a last baby free weekend? If so, what was/is on your list??

Edit: bags are packed, to do list is as done as it is going to get and we are getting cabin fever just waiting around the house! and it feels like a watched pot never boiling completely rings true for watched waters never breaking ;-)

  • Enjoy Guardians of the Galaxy! It was our last movie before baby arrives too :D

We have zero plans this weekend but I'm sure we'll figure something out if baby doesn't decide to make an appearance. I'd love to go out to dinner - a fancy steak house or something

@Jentech84‌, That sounds like a delicious idea! I am also going to try to savor the experience of cloth napkins and glassware/silverware while dining out......it may be a while before I see these things again. Lol.
  • @Weezy2012‌ my thoughts exactly!

  • I held out on making plans for this weekend just knowing we would have a baby so I started making plans, granted they are all kid friendly since we have a 1.5 year old.

Friday: Going to an outdoor food festival
Saturday: Yardsales and the county Fair
Sunday: Getting together with some friends

  • My c/s is scheduled for Tuesday, so we know this will be our last weekend as well.  We took DS to the movies for the first time last weekend. But this weekend, we are just going to lay low and spend as much time with him as possible. I've tried to explain it to him but I have such bad mommy guilt right now.

  • We did something like this but it was more of a last weekend as a family of 3.

But good for you! I totally regret not doing something like this before having my first. I also had zero labor signs and was induced and I should have spent less time pouting and more time enjoying being on my own schedule.

  • This is a great idea! Due on Monday and LO is showing no early signs of leaving my womb. If all is well my doctor won't induce until the 25th, so maybe we'll do something special the 23rd/24th.
  • I'm due on Sunday and baby is happy and cozy in there. Dr. will induce next Weds. if baby hasn't arrived on its own. We have an almost 4 year old who is tired of waiting for the baby too, so I think we're going to make this weekend all about her and doing fun things as a family of 3. There's a nice little zoo about a half an hour away, miniature golf, ice cream. Still will keep us close to the hospital and babysitters if baby does want to make its arrival.

  • @flip_flops‌, enjoying a last weekend with the first born sounds pretty special, too! I will have to remember this in the future.

Honestly I didn't really think about it until a few days ago. I think having the induction officially scheduled has taken away a lot of uncertainty and given us new perspective. I did not realize how wrapped up we were getting in the most insane little details of baby prep (like child proofing for things that won't even be an issue until he can walk!). I really regret not taking more time like this to spend with DH before our wedding--instead I spent too much time worry about stupid centerpieces and photo wall props.
  • We have been doing lots of "last" dates for a couple of weeks. We went out to eat last Friday, which we don't usually do, and went to see Guardians of the Galaxy on Tuesday. This weekend our little township has its 150th anniversary so we will be doing some of those events, parade, bingo, etc.

Otherwise I think we are going to be sitting around saying "come out baby!"

  • SO and I will be spending the night at an old inn by the lake about 30 mins away from home. Going to enjoy a nice steak for dinner too..... Mmmm. Bring on the weekend! I don't mind baby staying put until Monday ;)

Haha we have been trying to bribe the baby by telling him about all his cool toys, nursery, and pet cat. He clearly is not impressed.
  • My RCS is Wednesday, so this will be our last weekend as well. So far we have nothing planned.

  • That's pretty much what we did last weekend - dinner at a nice restaurant, and we saw Guardians of the Galaxy as well!  I'm due on Sunday, but I think we'll probably have at least this whole weekend to ourselves again so we should try to do something fun.

  • I got an outdoor vintage table and chairs at an estate sale last weekend. If this baby doesn't come this weekend I am spray painting the whole thing so we have a nice place to sit outside after baby comes! and yes I have a mask for painting!
