I was told dairy, wheat, tomatoes , garlic , gassy veggies, mayo, eggs, caffeine, beans ...and all below. Doc said most likely it is dairy but to cut everything listed and slowly work things in to see what is the culprit...so far I've cut everything and DH says my diet is that I can pretty much eat only cardboard ...good luck !
But what's the problem with eating these? Is there an issue I should be on the lookout for?
ETA I looked at the attachment... So fussiness and colic, I'm still so confused. Isn't breastmilk supposed to be best just naturally? Why would diet need to be so restricted?
It's basically gassy foods or foods that the baby has problems digesting...we had to even go to supplementing at night because LO had such a hard time...doc said it doesn't mean they are allergic, just their digestive system cannot handle the foods
Basically this is what my thoughts are. Feel free to PM me if you want. I will say I do work as a pediatric dietitian so I have professional thoughts on this topic.
1. Blood in stool = likely milk protein allergy and a high correlation of soy allergy too. Cut that out of the diet.
Otherwise normal diet. Certainly if you notice every time you eat a certain item baby is more fussy then remove it. With my DD she was a spitter. We went though 8 or more bibs daily. But she was gaining and growing.
^^ that...blood and mucous in stool can be dairy protein/soy most commonly. egg tends to do eczema. nuts are another bigger one. I merely stopped caffeine/coffee for my lo now. My ds1 was a spitter with reflux then allergies- allergies causes weeping rashes on his face and scalp that didn't clear @4 mo old. He had red flecks in stool and mucous. He's allergic to most of the world these days (4y/o), literally. I am so stinkin' sick of food eliminations- DS for 4 years, me for this past year due to different things, diet changing every couple of months, so I'm not big on looking for trouble if you really don't see any and I wouldn't want to limit things if there were no symptoms.
Colic and gas can happen regardless of what you cut...so IMO if it's too much I wouldn't do it- unless you notice improvement. Also allergies CAN be really out there, and you may never find it, at which time ppl switch to formula made for allergic babies.
Inconsolable crying, usually at night for over 3 hours is colic (ds used to go for 6 hours quite well, NOTHING helped not singing rocking swing chairs bouncy seats car rides, baths, nursing- and likely allergies were more responsible then the mysterious colic). This LO I have now, falls asleep on his own while I sit still and contemplate where I want to rock him. He fusses and hiccups with reflux, obviously painful, but since starting some pepcid, is back to what I guess a regular baby is- I didn't get very much "regular" with #1. Also night waking, poor sleep and poor behavior are indications.
I cut dairy and have noticed a reduction in spit up and diaper rash. She was crazy fussy and spit up buckets after I ate ice cream, so it was easily identifiable.
LO can get super gassy/straining, so I try to watch what I eat as far as gassy foods go, so I watch what veggies I eat and no beans or things high in acid. There were two days where she did nothing but constantly strain all day long but took all day to actually poop, and then we figured it must be the spaghetti sauce I ate two dinners in a row. Right now I'm trying to avoid all of the "no" foods, and then I'm going to slowly add one back in at a time to see how it affects her with her gas issues. I'm avoiding straight dairy (no ice cream, yogurt, extra cheese) right now, but not going to the extent to make sure other things I eat are completely milk free (breads, crackers, cake, etc). I know it will take about another week and a half before I can start adding foods back in for testing. I just hate to see her strain all day, and the pedi said that they weren't concerned as long as she was having at least one bowl movement a day, so I'm trying to see if there is anything additional I can do to help.
On the other hand, I never had to eliminate anything with my first DD. So far so good with my new baby, as well. Not everyone will have these issues. And mostly it's just early on, their digestive systems aren't mature.
Not really a diet restriction, but I'll never indulge on these again while BF'ing. Last year while BF'ing DD when she pulled away from the boob I was like "it really reeks of onion" I mean it really stunk. That night I had eaten fajitas with lots of grilled onions. P-U!!!! It was so gross coming off of my boobs the smell, and her poor breath. Just yuck! (Random comment) this thread made me think of that.

Tomato sauce seems to bother him as well. I just trial and error different foods.
