TTC after 35

Spotting on Femara?

So this is my first cycle on femara and I've been spotting quite a bit.  AF usually lasts 5 days, then spot for 2.  But I'm on CD 11 and still having spotting off and on all day.  Any other femara users experience the same thing?  I was gonna call my RE to ask, but the nurse is on vacation and I didn't feel like waiting on the actual dr to call me back.

Re: Spotting on Femara?

  • No spotting here. I've actually been a little nervous at my complete lack of ANY symptoms. :-S

  • @Heath&Jas Well, I haven't had too many other symptoms if that helps.  I've maybe had some minor ones, but nothing I would have noticed otherwise.  Like, I had a headache.  Who knows if that's from the femara or not?  Really nothing notable....
  • @IFinTN about that ultrasound....I'm not really being monitored.  I mean, I had an US before starting meds to check for cysts (none).  But they did not mention an US during this cycle.  I have actually been wondering if this is cause for concern since so many women are monitored - but it seems most of those that are monitored are doing IUI.  But I'm not doing IUI or trigger shots, I do O very regularly on my own, so I wonder if that's is part of the reason why I'm not monitored....idk.

Part of me thinks my RE is being weird about it, but part of me, the large part of me, knows that he's the expert, and I know he's famously successful, so I just roll with it!  Which is also weird b/c I'm not that lax about things usually! #selfadmittedneurotic
  • I also think, @IFinTN , that maybe the theory is this:
If I am producing 6 or more follies, oh well, what are we gonna do?  I mean, it won't stop me from BD'g.  As far as the cysts.  I will get US's before starting another round. So if I develop cysts, he will find them before and won't let me start another month.

But as far as O timing....I am using OPK's and temping, so that should be telling within the next 5 days or so.....I'm so anxious to see what will happen on a medicated cycle vs non.  After charting for over a year now, I've ALWAYS O'd on CD 14 or 15....curious to see what, if anything, the femara does to it.
  • My thoughts on it are this, @IFinTN, apparently my eggs are pretty much all bad anyway (since I can have chemicals left and right), so even if I have 6...I'm just HOPING that one of them is good.  Does that make sense?

No, I'm not OK with higher order multiples or selective reduction.  But I seriously doubt I need to worry about that since my conception rate is quite high / success rate is so low :(
  • @IFinTN
I'd LOVE to know what's going on in there all the time, but I really just think he has a hunch about the best protocol - FOR NOW - they said we'd try 3 cycles like this (assuming no cycsts) then go from there.  I'm on the lowest dosage.  And if my spotting continues like this, I'll def call and ask for answers...

He really is the best in this region/part of the US and I have to trust that he's in that position for a reason.  I'm overwhelmed enough without trying to second guess his ridiculosuly well-informed decisions.
  • @IFinTN, I second guess all the time too. It's truly driving me batty.  One minute I'm convinced it's just a matter of time before my rainbow is on the way.  But the next, I'm replaying all my losses and thinking "why did I ever think I could do this?"  I'm trying to be better about it though.  Anyway, for some reason, it makes me feel a small sense of calmness in just going with what he says.  I mean, there's no way I know more about it than he does, so I logically assume his suggestions are good.
  • @IFinTN Spotting did stop the next day, but still no sign of O!  I always O on CD 14 or 15, and today is 14.  Still negative OPKs.  I've even tested 3 times a day to ensure I don't miss my surge.  Starting to freak out.  I did have one the other day that was the darkest of all the ones I've done, but it was still clearly negative.  But ever since then, they've gotten lighter - almost non existent.  Not sure if I missed the surge or not.  I hope not.  I've had no CF and my nipples usually hurt badly after O, and I've had no pain.  So idk.  I'm not temping right now, as it drives DH crazy.  I wish I were though so I'd know if I'd missed the boat or not.
  • Hey there @IFinTN,
I don't have much time to post, sorry for the slow replies....
I finally got blaring pos OPK on CD16.  So I think I O'd on 17.  Don't know for sure, as I've retired my thermometer.  But I had all the tell tale signs I normally have.  Fortunately, DH and I managed to BD the night before.  So fingers crossed....So I'm 2dpo and O'd 2-3 days later than usual.  I think that sounds reasonable...

So you have a FET scheduled for October?  I bet you're so glad that August seems to be flying by!  It'll be here before you know it!
