My first child and I have finally found a birthing center and midwife that I love. I would love someone to talk to who is also going through this seemingly uncharted territory!
Right here! What state are you in? I'm birthing at the Birth Cottage in Milford NH, due Oct 5. none of my gfs have gone natural & I'm terrified but a lot of support from my husband. In fact a lot would consider my overall pregnancy/parenting choices 'alternative'.
I'll be giving birth with a midwife at a birth center not attached to a hospital (although it is 2 min drive from one in case something were to happen where I need a doctor's care).
I am! I'm in Maine and will be having a natural birth with a midwife and doula through the hospital-affiliated birthing center in the area (we hired a doula separately). My husband I took hypnobirthing classes last month, and walked away with this (above all else): it's about relaxing, working with your body and releasing any fear that is associated with the idea of birth. Your body is made to do this. It's not going to be easy (it's called labor for a reason) but I'm placing trust in myself and my body. My doula and midwife (and husband) will be there for extra coaching and support.
I am! I'm with a midwife practice in a free-standing birth center, but I am planning on birthing at the hospital about 2 min away (insurance reasons)...all the midwives are authorized to practice at the hospital as well. Took a natural birthing class and am feeling confident that I can do this!
28 years old. Married 5 years. DD born Oct 2014 via C-Section (footling breech) Baby #2 (AND #3...SURPRISE!) Due Nov 17, 2016. Found out it was twins at 18+5!
I am not. But the woman who did my prenatal massage mentioned attending a birth and massaging the mom to be through the labor and the that was incredible. Opened my mind a bit!
Best of luck to you and so happy you like your midwife!
Switched at 24 weeks from an OB in a hospital to a freestanding birth center with a midwife. So far it's the best decision I've made. I'm excited to get to experience a birth my way.
This is my first time and i want to do a home water birth because i live in hopkinsville ky and jennie stuart is not open to water births ....but i have no clue how to find a midwife or if my insurence covers the pool .. can anybody help? Im 28 weeks today.
I did with my son and hope to do the same this time as well! My midwife is at a large Boston hospital and I actually will go to the hospital to give birth, just like last time, but only a midwife and one nurse was present along with DH.
FTM planning on a home birth with two midwives (my primary care midwife brings a second midwife to assist). I will also be taking a birthing class based on the book Birthing From Within.
The Natural Birth board has a lot of midwife info too. But the October board is super fun!!!
edit: I am obsessed with watching the BBC docu-realities "The Midwives" and "One Born Every Minute." Even though they are filmed in England, they offer some really cool insight into midwifery.
I am planning a natural birth at the hospital with a midwife. My first birth was a natural hospital birth and I feel like I got really lucky with who was on staff when I went into labor... a former midwife was my head nurse. This time, I wanted to try to plan for that kind of care.
I'm pretty excited about giving birth... one of my midwives happens to live across the street from me, and happens to be a good friend. She's going to deliver my baby even if she's not working when I go into labor. She even said she'd stock some gloves at her house and stop over to check me before we go to the hospital, so we know if it's time to go.
OP, you'll do great! Birthing naturally is utterly thrilling and wonderful. xx
I'm in long beach, Ca . Ya my bf has been a bit nervous about the whole thing he is a little conservative but we are starting our Bradley method classes this week so I hope that will get him more comfortable with the idea. Ya I am the only person I know that had taken this route and most people think I'm crazy but I think going into a hospital for a low risk birth is crazy. What's your due date?
I would contact your insurance they should be able to give you midwives that they cover if the do at all. In my case my insurance would only cover the birthing center and midwife (which comes with a tub for water birth) if I had an ob that was willing to work with them. So I was able to find one but it's not the easiest thing to find a ob willing to work with a midwife but start doing your research! I did and I'm so happy to finally be where I feel like I'm suppose to be.

I think we already tried to help you yesterday or the day before with your post. We are not going to call your insurance for you (it's "insurance," not "insurence"), and I can certainly google "Hopkinsville, KY Midwife" for you, but that seems a bit silly to me.
We are- our first son was a non med hospital birth with a midwife (I had a vacuum assist- so not entirely intervention free). Our second son will be the same- no med and hopefully low intervention in a hospital with a midwife.
My only advice is educate yourself as much as possible and trust your body.

I was not rude to you. I was telling you we already tried to help you, but no one can answer if your insurance covers a midwife or whatever. You should do your own research for your medical providers.
Im due on holloween and to the other lady i told you i posted this before the other one and also i already found out but thank you for being so supportive!!

Am I the only one who busted up laughing like a teenage boy at the bolded? )
Re: Anyone else doing a natural birth through midwife?
Any questions ask away!
My first
