Kidneys

I haven't made a post here before but I have commented a lot.

I went for my follow up appointment, and my midwife said she scheduled me a u/s due to the kidneys were higher than normal.
I tried to get her to elaborate on that, and she just kept saying higher than normal. Does that mean higher in position? Larger? So many questions. I did a mistake a googled. Some wasn't to bad, but some were. She wants a u/s ASAP.

Not asking for you to dx me. Just wondering if you've heard of higher than normal kidneys.

Re: Kidneys

  • Baby's kidneys or your kidneys?

Either way I have no experience jut sending you positive vibes that you get some answers. I agree with @Nicb13‌. Call back and get an answer as to what they are looking for and what it means. Not knowing will make you crazy!

    Good luck!

  • I'm going through this with my LO if she's referring to your baby's kidneys. Hers are slightly larger than normal. I believe the term is hydronephrosis. Its a common finding and usually resolves itself before birth. My LO was diagnosed at the 20 week anatomy scan and we've had follow up ultrasounds every 4 weeks since to track the progress. My LOs have gone from bilateral, meaning both kidneys, to only one being mildly dilatated. Stay off the Google. If your doctor isnt concerned about it, then you shouldn't be either. But take it from me, I know that's easier said than done.

  • Yeah--YOUR kidneys? Or the baby's?

If it's yours, they may induce you. My husband's ex-step-cousin (follow that) just had a baby, and they were concerned with her (the cousin) kidneys, so they ended up inducing her around 37 weeks or so.

But I don't know anything other than "they were concerned with her kidneys." I don't know what "higher than normal" means.

Definitely call back, why didn't you ask right then?!?! I would have been all HOLD UP WAIT.

  • For some reason it won't let me quote.

The baby's kidneys. I asked her numerous times at the appointment because my last ultrasound was around 21 weeks and I'll be 31 weeks on Friday. Why such a long wait? Why not a mention before.

Thank you all for comments. She didn't really say anything other than they seem higher than normal.

I take metformin for PCOS, and they told me to continue taking during pregnancy. Since I didn't take it with my first cause my dr then said not to I'm wondering if the medicine can cause some problems.
Of course I'm a worry wart! I want my rainbow baby to be healthy!
