CPW: Diapers?

We're planning to try cloth diapering with this LO, so I've been thinking way too much about diapers lately. What's your diaper plan for your LO on the way?

I picked cloth at home and sposies when out, but I also use sposies during the newborn stage. I only have OS cloth, so I wait about 6-8 weeks until LO fits in them.

  • DD has been in cloth since she was 6 days old and the meconium was gone.  She's only been in disposables during travel or the rare yeast rash.  Both Rx and OTC yeast rash creams aren't CD friendly plus your CD stash has to be specially washed to make sure the yeast is killed so you don't re-introduce it to your LO once their bums are clear.

  • Love me some cloth! DD has been in cloth 95% of the time since we brought her home from the hospital. The only time we've used sposies are when we've taken weekend trips once or twice a year. I'm looking forward to getting out all of our cute little NB diapers for this LO!

  • I'm still undecided.  With my boys, I used disposables all the way - never knew there was another option.  But now, I'm kind of curious about cloth diapering and considering doing it, but I'm not sold yet.

I like the gDiapers idea - the disposable/compostable/flushable inserts with the reusable covers.  We currently live in an apartment and don't have anywhere to feasibly hang all the cloth diapers after washing (since I understand you're not supposed to put them in the dryer)

Also, as a mom who has 2 already and will be returning to work after this LO is born, I'm not sure how I'd keep up with all the washing - I can barely keep up with laundry as it is...

I'm open for discussion on cloth diapering if anyone's an expert and would like to provide some insight.

  • All cloth (although will have disposables on hand for laundry emergencies and/or longer trips where we don't have washer access); thirsties duowraps with green mountain diaper newborn prefolds for newborn stage (meconium is supposed to be much easier to get out of the prefolds) and BumGenius 4.0 one-size pockets for after little one gets a wee bit bigger.

I originally looked into gDiapers when I was considering cloth diapers. The way I figured it out, they were going to be just as expensive with the disposable inserts as buying regular disposable diapers. I never actually tried them, but over the years I haven't read a lot of good reviews on them. If you like the cover/ insert combo I would recommend the Flip covers. They are a one size cover that you can adjust as your baby grows, so you don't have to keep buying bigger ones, like with the gDiapers. They are also less expensive than the gDiapers. You can do cloth or disposable inserts with them. I like to use a tri folded prefold in them. We've used the disposable inserts on over night trips. They work well and you get like 18 inserts for $6, so not expensive at all.

  • We are planning to cloth diaper.  I just registered for two packages of the Charlie Banana diaper sets since they come with 2 inserts per diaper plus can be used with a disposable insert if need be.  I also want a few of the Buttons cloth diapers since they're a local company and I've heard nothing but GREAT things about their design and quality.  I'm also planning to keep a small stash of disposable diapers on hand for when we need them.  How neat to see so many PgALers plan to CD.  It's a little overwhelming but I'm sure we'll get the hang of it.

We're going to start cloth when we leave the hospital. I've loved prepping and organizing my newborn stash and I'm slowly amassing a OS stash too :)

@‌starmile I'm having fun building our stash too! A lot more than I expected, actually. Just got this super cute fox diaper in the mail today :)

Originally, we were thinking of not starting cloth til she's ready for the one size diapers, but we decided to get a NB stash after all. We'll hopefully get to use the tiny diapers on a 2nd LO someday.

  • We're starting out with disposables just because it was one less thing to stress about (plus we received a ton at my shower), but I will look into the g diapers with the compostable/flushable inserts later on.

  • @MoreThanSparrows08‌ I agree with starmile about the cloth diapering board here: it's great! Watching the videos in their FAQ's thread is what first convinced me that cloth was do-able and worth it.

  • I would love to try cloth diapers but I don't need any extra work for when I go back to work. According to my daughter, she is going to hold the baby over the toilet

We will be using disposable like PP MH axed the idea of CD and I just don't think I will be able to keep with with the laundry aspect of it. Thanks @MrsDeo‌ for diaper review. That is a huge help to me. It has probably saved me a few hours of googling. :x I feel like all I do is research baby things anymore.

Haha, word on this!!!  Yesterday it was crib mattresses... to go organic or not... and you think that's a simple decision, *shakes head* everything is always more complicated than I think when I set out to do my research.   :-B
