HELP!! I have cankles!

They literall showed up today completely uninvited. I have no ankles!!! Is anyone else experiencing this and do you have any advice or remedies? I stay well hydrated throughout the day (as my pregnancy craving is ice water) and I put my feet up when I can, but these things are scary! I want them gone!!

  • My dad (navy nurse before I was born), my mom, and my MW all say that if your swelling your not getting enough salt. Which does contradict everything you read anywhere. I've listened to them and I haven't swollen.
  • I don't know, but it sucks, I get them on and off now :(

  • Yep. I had to throw on the sexy socks last night. It wasn't cankle level swelling, but it was puffy.

    Hmmmmm
I know. Everything says to reduce your salt intake. But I haven't swollen so. It could just be that I might not have swollen to begin with. I'll never know...
  • I have had them on and off for the past couple of weeks. I started back teaching today and they are awful! The worst they have been yet. And also I feel like they are going to burst. I have had my feet up since I got home but they are still hurting and swollen. Good luck!
  • I don't think much helps. :( I tried everything they suggested last pregnancy with no luck. They might get temporarily worse after birth before they start to go down. My swelling did and the doctor said that was normal.

I'm just glad it's still flip flop weather bc they are much easier to wear than most other shoes.

  • Ohhhh it's horrible isn't it?? And I thought I had cankles BEFORE!! I'm just thankful it's not fall...I don't think any of my boots would fit!
  • I get them instantly any time I have salt... even the smallest amount.

Yeah, I'm thinking that you just aren't swelling, but not because you eat sodium. there is still plenty of time left for you to see some cankle action too! ;)

Lol true! If that's something I get I'll be okay. I haven't had too many bad symptoms, yet.
  • Had them for about 3 weeks. I spend each night with my legs elevated to get them down to a normal size. But are huge by the end of the day. It's a horrible game I continue to play.
  • Mine are awful

And you do need sodium but you can't have too much either. You should look at the recommendations for sodium intake and stay within range

Sodium just like everything else is helpful and hurtful.

Swelling is normal below the hips from compression :(
  • I am definitely going to get me some compression socks too. I hope you do ok when you go back to work. It was a pretty rough day for me today. I feel like I have been hit by a bus! Lol! One good thing is though I have 7th graders so they don't need as much attention as the smaller ones. I plan on trying to sit in my chair and teach as much as possible.
  • Thanks, everyone! I'll try some of this stuff. I did put my feet up last night and put some ice on them which helped a little. And flip flops are my best friend right now! It just sucks a little because it is hot weather and my cankles are on display for all to see!
