"Trendy" name?

edited August 2014 in March 2015 Moms
My DH and I have always loved the name Rosalie, and were really bummed when the Twilight craze began and Rosalie became trendy with that series. My question is, do you think that craze has died down enough for Rosalie to stop being associated with Twilight, or do you hear Rosalie and assume the parents are Twilight fans?

I do associate the name with Twilight but probably because that is the only place I really recall hearing it, but 1) doesn't necessarily mean everyone does and 2) if you like it, use it! It's cute. ETA: Just to clarify, I think of Twilight when I hear the name, but I wouldn't assume the child was named because the parents were big Twilight fans.

  • My cousin named her LO Rosalie and I didn't make the connection even though I was a big Twilight fan. FWIW I think it's a pretty, classic name and I wouldn't automatically think you were a Twilight fan.

  • We are in the same situation! We loved Jackson for a boy. But apparently it is a main character on Sons of Anarchy I think. My husband is a firefighter and there have been 3 boys born with that name in the last year(ish). We really liked that name, but don't want the kid to be in class with 2 or 3 other people with the same name. My name was pretty popular in our area and there are like a dozen of us at my church.
I don't actually have any advice lol but I know what your going through.

  • My sister-in-law who's in her late 30's is the only Rosalie I know. I agree if you're going Bella I would think Twilight but not with Rosalie. It's a really pretty name! I was just looking at the top baby names and I didn't even see it on the list!

  • Rosalie is beautiful. I've never read/seen Twilight, so I definitely wouldn't put it together. My first thought was Shakespeare, actually, because it reminds me of Rosaline.
  • I like the name and I don't think twilight. I'm struggling with the name Magnolia I love the name but I can't figure out if it's too out there or not. Oh well

We are going through this over that name too! It's the only boy name we both like. We were going to spell it Jaxon though.

I have seen all the Twilight movies and that didn't come to mind with the name Rosalie. I think it's a pretty name and once you associate it with your child, you won't think about Twilight anymore. And anyone who does think that is a super Twilight dork anyway! J/k I stole some if the music from the wedding to use in my own wedding
    B-)
  • I think Rosalie is a beautiful name and would not have made the twilight connection.

  • I never knew Rosalie was in Twilight, that being said, I honestly don't think it's trendy. I love the name.

  • I like it and wouldn't connect it to twilight. Even though I read all the books. It's defiantly died down enough. I do know a girl who named her daughter renesme, which is the name of Bella and Edwards kid. That will forever be connected to twilight. I also have the name Jasper on my top boy names and it's a twilight name but he wasn't in them much. Hopefully it won't be associated with it either.
  • I was a HUGE twilight fan and wouldn't have even made the connection. I think had you done this 5 years ago maybe.... But I think you're in the clear! Beautiful name!

  • I associate the name Rosalie to one of my favorite characters on the TV show Grimm. I've never had anything to do with the whole Twilight thing, except to mock it excessively. I think it is a beautiful name, and it makes me think of a person who would grow to have a very sweet and kind disposition.

Jackson (especially Jaxon) was one of my top contenders for boy names. Unfortunately, DH has a coworker by that name who he absolutely hates. So, that name is out the window for us :(

ETA: Jasper is up there as well, and had forgotten! Thanks for the reminder!

  • Such a beautiful name. I would never think it was from Twilight.
My DH and I love the name Anastasia, but the 50 Shades of Grey movie will be coming out February 2015- so I told him we need to think of another name. I don't want people thinking I named our baby after that. :)

  • I don't associate it with Twilight.

    Bella and Esme, I do.
  • I named my son Emmett
  • All the names mentioned in this thread are beautiful names that have been around for a long time. I haven't known any of the pop culture references y'all say are associated with the names, but I might be truly a haggard troll who doesn't have cable.

Choosing a classic name that may have a resurgence in one corner of pop culture is fine. However, you may run into trouble if using a new name or a word that hasn't typically been used as a name before. I'm looking at you, Game of Thrones names (Arya/Aria and Daenerys).
