Egg Quality

I've heard people mention before how their fertility issues were caused by poor egg quality.... How is that determined exactly??
When we were doing our IVF cycles my dr didn't come out and say I had bad egg quality, but he said one of the reasons the eggs sometimes don't all fertilize can be because of this.... Both IVF cycles we had about 8 eggs during the retrieval and then ended up only having one make it to the blastocyst stage the first round and two during the second round....
Like I said, he never came out and said I had poor egg quality, but just wondered how anyone going through that got their diagnosis? Cause it's been in the back of my head ever since my doctor mentioned it....
