Not sure if this has made national news, but it's so nice to see employees risking everything for their former CEO. I hope they resolve their issues and Arthur T is able to buy the company from his greedy cousins! I miss shopping there.
I REALLY miss Market Basket! I won't shop there while the employees are striking, but I can't find the things I usually buy, especially the stuff for my LO. I've been to 4 grocery stores looking for full-fat greek yogurt and I can't find it anywhere else. Plus, the other grocery stores in my area charge up to about 60% more for groceries. I think the Market Basket board should be fired, because it doesn't seem to me that they're looking after the fiduciary interest of the company very well. It seems to me like they want to get rid of Arthur T out of spite.
@beth.1212 I won't shop there either but I miss it. They have such a good selection and much better prices on organic milk/yogurt/cheese. Have you tried wegmans? I have heard they have a huge selection.
@ChickenOnSunday - all the stores are in New England, mostly in Massachusetts and NH. The CEO that was fired was known for taking care of his employees and putting them ahead of profits.
omg i need my market basket back. What sucks is there is a brand new one about to open in my town in a couple of months and the building was JUST finished and it looks like it will be no more if things keep going the way they are. Looks as though the cheap grocery gravy train has ended.
Ugh, seriously...Arthur S is a freaking douchebag. And those poor workers losing their livelihoods to stand up for something they believe in so strongly.
Any thoughts on Shaws? Its the next closest chain to me besides the uber expensive Donelan's. Might look into shopping there.
I don't love shaws, I think their food is overpriced and their produce isn't great. I have been alternating between hannaford and stop and shop. We are just spending so much more on groceries now!
So funny, I *loathe* Market Basket but the STRIKE NEEDS TO END because I can't handle all of these extra people at Stop and Shop. It doesn't matter when I go. Fucking ZOO in there.
Honestly, what Arthur T. does for his employees and that company is amazing and it's disgusting that the family/board voted him out--they still turned profits! They just want more! Anyone know where it stands--last I knew his bid to buy the rest of the 51% was up against some of the big chain stores--which, I'm sorry, the MB model (low overhead, high benefits) would be out the window in a second and I doubt customers would return if he's not reinstated. I honk when I drive by the protesters!
It's funny because I'm from Southeast Texas and there was a small chain of grocery stores named Market Basket. I never knew there was another larger chain out there. I'm happy things are getting resolved for them.
Haha yessssssss hopefully all the extraneous people will be out of my Stop and Shop!
I saw on Twitter he bought it for 1.5 BILLION dollars.....I just hope the store is able to survive, I know some distributors were fed up with the delays and stuff. I'm so glad all those people can go back to work!
