So it's the first day back to school and I finally got a break at lunch to look at my phone. I have a missed call from the doctor. I had my test last Monday and was told that if I didn't hear anything by Wednesday or Thursday, that no news was good news. Here I was thinking that I was in the clear. Instead of telling me last week when I didn't have to worry about students, I now have to miss the third day of school to have the three hour test. I need all the days I have for maternity leave and I only failed by a few points. I am dreading the fact that my veins are incredibly small and hard to find and I can't have any water after midnight. On top of that, my iron is slightly low so extra protein and low carbs for me. I really hope my test Wednesday goes well. Sorry to vent.
Re: Failed GD test
I just finished drinking my glucola for the one hour. Am I the only one that kind of likes it?
Hoping everything turns out well for you for your second test - I went through the same thing and passed the second time - Had to fast without water as well, you will get through it- hopefully your test is relatively early. Best wishes going your way.

I wasn't allowed to drink water after I drank the drink and before they tested my sugar so just for that one hour.
I can write an essay on the GD diet but I will try and keep it short.
I eat 6 times a day now, breakfast, lunch, dinner and snack in between each meal and a snack before bed. I try and stay within carb counts as well 30g, 60g, and 45g for breakfast, lunch and dinner respectively and 15g of carbs for snacks.
I also load up on protein to balance the carbs - general rule is 14g of protein for each 15g of carbs. Swap out refined carbs (white rice, white bread, potatoes) for unrefined carbs like brown rice, whole grain bread etc. I also drink a lot of soy milk, especially at breakfast and with my night time snack.
Everyone's body is different so testing your blood sugar and learning what you can get away with, is key. I can eat a PB&J sandwich with soy milk for lunch and have low sugar readings. Breakfast is usually soy milk and a Greek yogurt. For dinner, I load up on meat if I can. Last night I had spaghetti but I ate a smaller portion and instead had a pretty big salad to fill me up.
FX that you pass your three hour because GD isn't fun but it isn't all that bad either. You get used to it and it forces you to eat healthier for the remainder of your pregnancy.
