Extreme Elimination Diet

I'm heartbroken and desperately want to continue breastfeeeding... 10 Weeks ago my baby started to show blood in her stools. Her doctors are sure it's food sensitivities. This runs in the family. I eliminated nuts, dairy, soy, gluten, corn, oats, chocolate, fish, shellfish, eggs, beef, and maybe more. We saw improvements 4 weeks ago so we started to introduce baby foods & a multivitamin with iron 2 weeks ago. Since then, she's had terrible stools. Week #1 of solids was sweet potatoes, Week # 2 was peas. She's never shown any signs of discomfort and continues to gain weight and thrive but I'm very worried about the inflammation causing other problems that a hypoallergenic formula can prevent. She's now 7 months old and begging to eat solids but still loves to nurse. What else can I eliminate or is it best to ween to formula so she have a chance at solids without inflammation?

Re: Extreme Elimination Diet

  • I agree with PP about the multivitamin. Also, are you sure you have not accidentally had hidden dairy or soy? I didn't realize that a spice I was using had corn flour in it and another soy lecithin. My DD2 is super sensitive too and I've eliminated almost the same things you have. When we intro'd green beans to her directly, things went poorly so I suspect she has an issue with beans. I think peas may fall in that family but I'm not sure. I'm actually starting those next week but am nervous.

Also, our pedi seems less concerned about stool issues so long as baby is happy and thriving. If you're not sure about the vitamin, you can always email the company directly. I usually get responses very quick. GL!

  • Thanks ladies! I did skip the baby multivitamin today and even skipped my prenatal because it has DHA (which might be fish). I need to get a new prenatal and will definitely contact the baby multivitamin manufacturer. I also never thought about the peas having a sensitivity like soy! I'm usually very good at reading labels and researching products because I have a slew of my own sensitivities but I'll just leave out all legumes for now. Thanks again!!
