Multiple pregnancies? How did yours differ from one another?

This is my second pregnancy, my first was with our daughter and this one is with our son. My daughter is now 3 1/2 and I'm 17 weeks along.

With my first pregnancy I had all day sickness for the first three months straight. But with this one I'm just having severe lower back pain and I'm severely tired all the time. (:|

Re: Multiple pregnancies? How did yours differ from one another?

  • DS#1-All day sick from 7wks-20wks.  Craved carbs like crazy. Terrible back pain the last 3-4mths

DS#2-All day sick from 5.5wks-18wks.  Terrible pre partem depression during first tri. Craved salads and fruit.

DS#3-All day sick from 9-12wks.  Felt great most of the pregnancy, but I also ran almost daily until the day I delivered.

This pregnancy (DD#1)-Sick from 5.5wks-18wks, thought I was dying.  Exhausted all the time and my back is already having sciatic issues.

  • I am comparing the two but I really shouldn't. Oddly, I'm due just around 1.5 weeks earlier than I was due with my first so the timing is so close that I can kind of recall how I felt in June, July, etc last time vs. this time.

Our first is a son, we're not sure what we're having yet with this pregnancy. But with both I have had evening time nausea (it's subsiding). Just an ill feeling, but nothing more (very grateful and lucky).

I'm far more bloated and uncomfortable very early on with this one vs. the last one. I need maternity clothes now at 14.5w (and have needed them for about 2w but I'm still managing to wear a mix) and I was able to wait until around 19w the last time.

I'm having some constipation issues this time that I didn't have last time. No bueno.

I'm exhausted but I seem to be doing better this time (despite a 4yo). But last time we were packing and selling 2 homes all summer long, shopping for a new house and, ultimately, building a new house all while pregnant. And we moved in with my mom while I was PG as well while we waited for our house to be finished. So there was A LOT going on outside of the pregnancy that just wore me out last time. This time it isn't so hectic.  So exhaustion isn't really comparable.

Otherwise, I feel very much the same, I suppose?  I have similar cravings and similar food aversions this time as well.

  • Last time, I was very tired during first tri. Sore boobs. But not much else. This time still tired and sort boobs but I had a bit of nausea in the second part of the first tri (weeks 9-12). Only difference so far

  • I am definitely more tired but I am not sure if thats related to having a two year old and being busier at work or if its because of the pregnancy! With E I did throw-up a few times but then immedately felt better with this one for 12 weeks I felt sick ALL THE TIME!
  • I've been way more tired this time. With DD, I felt maybe a little bit more tired than usual, but this time, I had overwhelming fatigue throughout the first trimester. I'm better now, but still more tired than usual. I felt sick for about the same length of time (6 wks - 14-ish weeks), but it was much more severe and constant.

  • 1st tri was more tiring with the second and even more tiring with the third.

That's the only major difference I've noticed so far.
  • I had pretty horrible morning sickness with ds1.
DS 2 was very similar to my first pregnancy, not much had changed.
Being pregnant with DS3 I had morning sickness, but I was extremely exhausted. I couldn't even brush my hair, shower, get dressed ect without having to lay down between. It was an all day event to get ready.

This pregnancy is so different. No morning sickness, hardly tired, I feel great..
I have my days though, where I could use a cat nap, but overall it's been so different. I still don't 'feel' pregnant.

  • With DD I had tons of symptoms right away. Sore breasts, morning sickness, bloating, food aversions, ect. Very little fatigue. I craved roast beef, onion bagels, and Nutella. I gained 47lbs total, took me a year to loose it all.

With this one, if I didn't have the +HPT I would have had no clue I was pregnant. I felt perfectly normal, just very tired. I'm just now getting my energy back! I've felt great so far and am still keeping up with my running. I'm craving Alfredo, Mexican, and pickles. I've only gained 6lbs so far.

  • So far they've been pretty similar in terms of nausea, fatigue, weight loss/gain etc. The real difference I've noticed has been with food cravings/aversions. With DS the only thing I could eat during first tri was ice pops, mashed potatoes, and chef boyardee/spaghetti os. This time one of my severe aversions has been anything with warm tomato sauce. I still haven't really been able to stomach pizza yet. Oh, this time I've had pretty constant acid reflux, which I fear is only going to get worse, that I never had with DS.

One thing that's making it hard to compare is the fact that my DH was out of town travelling for about 50% of my pregnancy with DS, and he's here all the time now. So, if I had crazy horomones or didn't feel like eating dinner, I didn't necessarily attribute it to pregnancy, I attributed it to being by myself so much. If that makes any sense at all.

  • With DD, I had no m/s, no cravings, nothing...except sore boobs in the very beginning. With this one (also a girl), I have had m/s, headaches, fatigue, and boobs are still sore (tmi!). Maybe it's because it's a different dad?!? Hee hee! Or because I'm a lot older now? LOL! But I know it could be a lot worse, so I am not complaining!

  • With my two boys I was tired and nauseated only if I forgot to eat, but nothing major. My boys were breech and I carried them high so I had alot of rib pain, but overall not so bad. For some reason this pregnancy has been absolute hell. I was on Zofran daily until last week, have had terrible headaches also daily, dizziness and tailbone pain which I never had before. I find out Friday what I'm having, but this pregnancy is so different that I am willing to bet it's a girl.

  • Both pregnancies: All day nausea from 5ish weeks until 14ish weeks. Sore boobs (I call them fire boobs) especially at night after taking off my bra. Aversion to chicken.

    First pregnancy: Craved sweet foods.
    This pregnancy: Craved/craving salty foods.

Last pregnancy but still to be seen for this pregnancy: Major swelling of legs, ankles, feet. Oh, and carpal tunnel. That was the worst.

    Both babies are girls.

  • My first pregnancy and this one are pretty much the same with the exception that I had some nausea for a few weeks in the beginning with this one.... but it was luckily not that severe and didn't cause vomiting

This one, I'm also having more discomfort in my back and hips much earlier and tossing and turning a lot while sleeping.... but I feel like it's maybe because I never really worked on rebuilding muscle/core strength after going through my first pregnancy so maybe my body is just a little weaker. I don't know.

Other than those few things, they're the same.

  • With DD I was nauseous all day every day from before 5 weeks until around 16 weeks and the on and off until the end. Also had terribly sore boobs and a few migraines.

This time I've only had a few days of nausea here and there, lots of migraines, lots of low back pain/sciatica, but my boobs don't hurt at all.

Thinking it's a boy this time but won't find out for a few more weeks.

  • My 2nd pregnancy (with my 2nd daughter) was different from my other pregnancies in that it was super easy other than me being extremely tired in the beginning. All of my 3 other pregnancies have been more or less the same. My in-laws joke that maybe pregnancy symptoms have more to do with personality than sex because Rowen (DD2) is quite a character. I was going to call her an oddball but I wouldn't want people to think I'm labeling her but I love my quirky little girl. She reminds me a little bit of Luna Lovegood from Harry Potter.
  • My first pregnancy was a freaking breeze. I was never sick and I never had any cravings. I just went on with my normal life until the end. The end result was horrible. I ended up with HELLP at 39w 2d and was induced...but it was easy up until then. This pregnancy is like the other end of the spectrum. I am 15w 2d and have been sick and tired since 5w. I've been on Diclegis since 6w, which makes me even more tired. Ive been weepy the entire time so far because I am so scared I'm going to get sick again.

Im in the same boat at far as worrying about the end. I ended up with severe preeclampsia last time and miss being blissfully unaware. Fingers crossed we both get a better ending this time!

  • @Edvent let me tell you, I've never been so nervous in my life.  I wish there was a way to forget, but as you know, its so important to pay attention to the symptoms.  I finally figured out how to update my ticker and then I saw your comment…we are due the same day!  I'll cross my fingers AND toes for us!
