i need a suv-suggestions?

i have to sell my beloved jetta for an SUV. (insert crying face). with my infants car seat I have to have the passenger seat all the way forward for it to fit. so now I need a SUV that will comfortably fit two car seats, strollers, exc. for around $5000. any suggestions? there's way too many so I figured I'd ask you lovely ladies to help narrow it down :D

Re: i need a suv-suggestions?

  • I love my Subaru forester. You can't have the seats all the way back to fit the Chicco Keyfit 30 but there is plenty of leg room when you the seat forward to get the required room between car seat and seat.

  • Although not exactly an SUV, do not rule out minivans.  I traded in my VW Touareg for a Honda Odyssey 3 years ago.   Best decision ever!  I have yet to find an SUV that offers as much space for car seats.  Not to mention the awesome trunk space.  I ended up making the switch when DS2 was 12 months.  It is like night and day getting kids in and out of car seats in the minivan compared to the SUV.

  • I love my Subaru forester as well. It was rated the safest SUV

  • We just bought a Mazda Tribute, and we're really happy with it. It's not a luxury car or anything, but it's roomy, comfortable, and has a manual transmission, so we're really getting great mileage for an SUV.

  • Add me to the Subaru Forester group.  It is an awesome drive and topped all of the safety charts.  We just got one in Nov and I absolutely love it.  With twins on the way, and a big dog, we may out grow it faster than we planned!

  • I have a Ford Escape (it's ooooold - 2006), and it's great for two kids.  I'm not sure how to fit three car seats in there now that #3 is coming.  Hopefully we can find some "skinny" car seats.  :/

  • Also, maybe you could find a different seat?  We also have a Jetta in addition to the Escape, and we can fit both the infant seat and the toddler seat in with no trouble.  I don't use the baby "bucket" - I use a convertible seat.  Is that an option?

  • I have a Volvo XC90 and I love it. Tons of trunk space when the back 3rd row is down and the option to seat 7 if I need/want it. It's not enormous, which makes parking easier but it still has plenty of leg/head room.

I do second whoever said about not ruling out a mini van. I was in one the other day and it was really comfortable to be in. TONS of room and in my experience they get pretty good gas mileage.

  • We recently bought a Chevy Equinox and I'm so pleasantly surprised by how much I love it.

  • i have a safety first air (unsure of model) carseat which I really love and trust. I love my car to death but it also has engine problems and high mileage. im afraid to drive it bc its starting to become untrustworthy (right now it wont start) and with Df in the car and bags, strollers, exc its too cramped.
  • I loved my CR-V!! I had to upgrade to a pilot which I also love, but if you want a dependable amazing suv, get a Honda!
  • Love my outback. I have an '08 and it maybe a little right because my husband is huge and slams the seat all the way back when riding in it. We are looking at the 2015 now and seeing if we want to upgrade to the new outback. Never had any problems with mine and I don't want a bigger SUV until the kids are 10+ years or older and we are traveling for sports more often.

  • My Honda CR-V is amazing. My best friend loved it so much she got one when she had a baby and loves it too!

  • Another vote for the Escape. Although I have to upgrade DD's car seat to a Radian so that I can also fit nubaby's seat plus my mom in the back.

  • I love my Dodge Journey. It's got hidden compartments that are perfect for spare outfits and emergency stuff. Today I got a crib in the back while my kids sat in the middle.
  • I love my Jeep Compass although I wish I could afford to trade it right now because I don't think I'll love it too much with my twins and my 6 yo DD in the back seat. But for one infant, it would be perfect!

  • I just got a nissan rouge I love it.  Went from an accord so this has great room.  Mine is the new re-designed so its actually bigger than the older version.  The rear seats recline and slide back and forth.  The trunk actually has cargo dividers so I can actually create shelves for more storage.  Not sure about your budget that you mentioned though.

  • We just got a Toyota 4Runner and I LOVE it. It has an optional 3rd row seat which will be great as we grow our family. It's a lot bigger than the Acura RDX I had prior, and we are loving all the extra room. Look for certified pre-owned to fit your budget. Good luck in your search!
  • We have a Ford Explorer, I LOVE! Backseat is really roomy and there's plenty of space in the back. Highly reccommend!

I loved my explorer too! Just be careful of the model & tired because I was in a rollover accident in mine (it was one of the bad 90's models)

I have an Envoy Denali now & that's great too'
  • I have a Nissan Rogue. Although I love it, I am looking to upgrade to a Pathfinder. I have two older children and everyone will be more comfortable with a bigger vehicle once the baby is born.
