Persistent Follicles?!?!

Just left my baseline appt with the RE.  Had IUI #1 last month and started my period on Sunday so today they did blood work and the vag cam to see if I'm ready for my next round of clomid.  Apparently my body was saying "we are getting pregnant this month or else" because I had some persistent follicles left over... one of them was 6 CM... thats not a typo CM not MM! What the heck?!?!?! 

So she said she would call me later today based on my bloodwork and I'll have the choice to either come back in a couple of weeks to see if they have shrunk or just sit it out this month.  I am most definitely going back in a few weeks to see and maybe we will end up sitting it out this month anyway. 

I learn something new all the time.  I had no idea what a persistent follicle even was or that it existed!! 

Anyone else have these? What did your RE do?

    I have never heard of that either, I would have thought it would be a cyst. I am interested to hear what they tell you! Good luck this cycle!

    @Jamielynn52 apparently they're just water filled follicles that didn't go away...

    @nariadreaming she didn't call it a cyst.  Now I'm confused! haha!! Maybe that was just a nice way of saying I have cysts???

    I had one before lasted two cycles but I have heard of others having many left over and had to sit out a cycle or two until they went away...GL!
    41 & single; DX:  PCOS

    Being that they're fluid-filled (and that you were on clomid), I assumed they were cysts as well. I did a quick Google search for "persistent follicles," and the majority of the search results were for horses and cows. I wonder if it's just not common medical jargon for humans...? Weird that she said they weren't cysts, though.

    DX: FVL, endo, hypothyroidism, blocked left tube

    Oct. 2014: First treatment cycle: Clomid+trigger+IUI=BFN

    November 2014: Clomid+trigger+IUI again=BFP!

    BFP 11/28/14 MC discovered 1/14/15

    At my last u/s, my RE found a 4cm fluid filled cyst that he said is probably a follicle that never burst from a previous cycle. Maybe that's why there's confusion... It's both? Lol

    Yeah... I'm not thrilled about mine bc if it's not gone by my day 3 u/s later this week, then we will not be able to do a medicated IUI cycle this month. Womp womp.

    Dr's office just called... they said the follicles aren't hormonal (whatever the heck that means) and they want me to take a month off.  Also, he didn't like the way Clomid did this to me so he is going to do something else.  One damn thing after another... I'm so angry right now!

    After my second IUI I went in for my baseline and had 3 17mm follicles left over from the last cycle. My doctor, like yours, didn't call them cysts, but after doing research I have found that they were indeed cysts! I just went in for my baseline ultrasound on Sunday and two of them totally disappeared and one shrank to 13 mm. I'm currently taking Clomid so the cyst that didn't go away apparently wasn't a problem. 

    I would go back in a few weeks to see what is up. I'm getting to the point where I'm obsessed with ultrasounds because I've had so many the past few months....I just want to know what is going on in there!

    Me: 33, DH: 32

    TTC: 2 years
    Fertility blood tests all normal
    Tilted uterus
    3 day ultrasound 17 follicles
    HSG: 11/13/13- tubes open
    DH SA: SUPER sperm (145 million, 84% motility, 22% morphology)
    All infection disease and immunity blood tests NORMAL
    FIRST IUI May 2014: 100 mg Clomid days 5-9, third ultrasound CD 13 revealed four follicles 27, 24 and 20 and 13mm. Trigger shot May 28 with IUI May 29 and 30 (fingers crossed) - BFN started spotting 11DPO :(

    IUI #2 B2B 6/23 and 6/24, three mature eggs and 130 million sperm! FX this is the month!  BFN 7/8

    3rd cycle benched due to cysts - TI with OPK tests -  BFN

    3rd mediated cycle: Clomid+Trigger+TI  (three follies left side, one on right as usual....what the hell right ovary get it together and produce some damn follicles!) 7DPO progesterone level 43 with NO suppositories YAY for a natural strong ovulation. Beta canceled started spotting 13DPO - Third time is not a CHARM! 14 day cycle WTF! Everything looks normal - RE wants to start injectables next cycle so this cycle I'm benched

    Officially benched until March....but still plan on trying the baking soda douche due to my excessive and thick CM

    I'm glad the doctor caught that, and has a new plan for you instead of Clomid. 6cm is no joke, did they talk to you about taking it easy physically to make sure it doesn't twist or rupture? I had 2 (5cm and 6cm, after they'd been leaking) and was told to be careful, no sports or anything too physical.

    I hope it goes away very fast! Mine went away on their own, although I'm not sure how long it took because we weren't doing treatments at the time. Good luck!

    I'm sorry about the confusion! I hope you are doing okay, that sounds like a large one! I'm sorry you have to take a month off, but hopefully your dr will come up with a different plan for you for next month.

    @bunnyberry she didn't say anything about taking it easy.  All she asked was if I was having any pain (which other than normal AF cramps I'm not) but good to know! I will make sure to play it safe!! 

    @runbera28 RIGHT?!?!? When she said 6CM I think my jaw hit the floor.  What the heck? My body is ridiculous! She did say that according to my bloodwork they aren't hormonal so I guess that means they aren't emitting estrogen which is a good thing!
