Stay at Home Moms

Going to NYC in 2 weeks! Looking for some recs!

Dh and I are going to NYC to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary. We'll be there for 5 days staying at the Four Seasons. We've both been before but this will be the first time we've gone together without the kids!

We're wanting to see at least one broadway show. I've seen wicked & Chicago and dh has never been. Any great show you'd recommend we go to?

Also restaurant recommendations would be great, especially for our anniversary dinner.

We'll be skipping a lot of the touristy things bc we've both done them before. We will go to a couple museums and we'll do a Greenwich village food tour, anything else we should try? I was thinking it'd be fun to grab a picnic lunch and head into Central Park. Any good places we could get a pre made picnic basket in the area?

  • Not a recommendation for places to visit, but be sure to tell your hotel you're celebrating your anniversary. We got upgraded to a suite and free breakfast buffet when we did. Score!

  • What kind of food do you like? As far as shows go, I can't recommend Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder enough. It's fantastic. Won the Tony for best musical this year. Get orch. or front mezz tickets if possible. The main characters have hilarious facial expressions. Matilda is fantastic, as is Aladdin.

I was just there with some family. My mom and aunt saw Jersey boys and loved it (not sure if you are into that or not) Two of my fav. restaurants are Club A steakhouse and Rosa Mexicana’s. Club A is like a Ruth Chris but smaller/more intimate –great steaks. I definitely recommend their truffle mac and cheese.Rosa’s has great margaritas and guacamole made table side!

  • I haven't been to NYC since I was 13-- it's been too long!

Nothing to add just have fun!!!! And tell us all about it when you get back!!
  • Thanks everyone! Keep it coming!
@princessbmw dh told them it was our anniversary when booking and they upgraded us to a park view executive suite and gave us complimentary limo pick up from the airport!!
    <:-P
@notkateanymore we like all kinds of food really. For our anniversary dinner I'm sure dh would like steak and I always love good seafood! Otherwise we like Mexican, Italian, Greek, Chinese, sushi, Indian. @nextchapter24 those restaurants sound great! I'm salivating at the thought of fresh guacamole & margaritas!!
I need to talk to dh and see what style of show he's up for. Not sure if he'll be into the Disney ones unfortunately. We saw the Jersey Boys movie and didn't like it so that's the only one we're definitely not into!

  • If you're willing to take the 1 train up a ways my absolute favorite restaurant is pisticci (www.pisticcinyc.com). Fantastic food and great atmosphere! It was around the corner from our first apartment and is kind of off the beaten path, but only a block from the 1 train at 125th!

If you want a picnic in the park there's actually a Whole Foods at Columbus Circle, right outside the entrance to the park. We usually pick stuff up there because it's quick and easy!

    Have fun!

  • For steak, I would suggest Keen's Steakhouse. It's in midtown, very dark and has delicious food. They have seafood as well, but they have delicious steak! For straight up seafood, Marea on Central Pk South is fantastic. It's Italian seafood if that makes any sense. I love the restaurant at the NoMad hotel, love Balthazar, Gramercy Tavern, Union Sq Cafe, Shake Shack is a must IMO, Luke's Lobster is great for a quick lobster roll, the cafeteria at MoMA is really yummy as are both of the "nice" restaurants but they require reservations. ABC Kitchen and ABC Cocina are both fantastic!
  • The Plaza Hotel has a great food hall in the basement, good place for lunch there are a million different counters and vendors, then a central place to eat.
  • Shake Shack is a must IMO, Luke's Lobster is great for a quick lobster roll
Haha! Shake shack is most likely going to be our first stop! Lol I was also going to ask if there was a good place for lobster roll!
Thanks for all the suggestions everyone! Can't wait for this trip!!
