Prenatal fitness center?

I am thinking of joining a women's fitness and wellness center that specifically caters to women in the prenatal and post-natal period.  The prenatal classes seem to be yoga, core, toning, and barre which have obviously been modified for women who are pregnant.  The pricing is decent ($118 for a 3-month membership).

Has anyone done something like this?  Was it beneficial?  I didn't workout prior to getting pregnant outside of occassional yoga (maybe 2-3 times a month), so I'm looking for someone to guide me a little bit with my workouts.  I need to do something because the two months of lying on the couch feeling too sick to move has really deconditioned me!  I get winded waaaaay too easily now and have noticed I lost some of my strength.  My anemia probably isn't helping the situation, but the doctor did say it was OK to start working out as long as I wasn't getting my heart rate over 140 or doing anything in a heated room.

I'd love to hear other people's thoughts on prenatal programs they liked during a prevoius pregnancy or one they are doing now that they like. Thanks!

  • Hey, girl, heeeyyyy! @CrazyCornball.  I've just been at work late (the clinic has been busy with lots of new pregnant patients).  And sleepy. So, I get home, eat, and then immediately go to sleep.  Hey, at least I can eat now!! :)

  • My best friend recommended taking some prenatal workout classes. She feels like it helped her... I thought about giving it a try, it cant hurt. (at least I dont think it can)

  • I know a few people who have taken prenatal fitness classes and really enjoyed them. I'm planning on signing up for the next session.

  • Thanks for the advice and thoughts, ladies!  Maybe this weekend I'll give it a try :)
  • I'm taking my first prenatal pilates class on Saturday; I've been taking pilates for years and have always seen how it seemingly helped women throughout their pregnancy stay strong and recover more quickly after giving birth... I agree with an earlier post that it's worth giving it a try and the price doesn't seem bad for 3 months (I wish they offered something like that there in the NY/NJ area!!). I feel like I'm going to need a part time job just to keep up with these workouts, LOL

I just went back to look at the menu again, and that is a PER MONTH price for three months.  HA! Deceiving.  I thought that price was too good to be true for Chicago. A little less affordable than I thought!  -_-
