serious hip pain...

I've posted before but this pelvic and hip pain is no joke. I've tried pillows to sleep with... any suggestions on how to help the pain?
ANYTHING! My ob says to take Tylenol but I'm not a big medicine taker.

  • Have you gone to a chiropractor? I would die from back and hip pain without mine! Good Luck!

  • I was very reluctant to go to the chiro because I don't like the thought of people messing with my spine, but honestly it's been a god send. I was having trouble even walking before. I don't know what life would be like if I hadn't been going for the last month.

  • I hear ya. I've been seeing a chiro since I was 19 weeks (I'm 33 weeks now). I couldn't imagine how much pain I would be in if I wasn't seeing one. I was afraid before but it's not so bad. He's now started doing Websters technique to help make more room for the baby.

                              

  • I started going to a chiro with my first at 28 weeks as was having pain. Then have been going the whole time with #2 no pain or anything this time. Definitely recommend going to chiro.

  • I'll def look into a chiropractor... but as far as the memory foam; I have one. It's like... it's so comfortable it hurts.
  • What I've found that helps is to sleep on my side with one leg propped up either with a pillow under my leg or with my leg on my dh. It relieves pressure on the hips.
  • I had the same thing and went to someone who specializes in manipulation (not a chiro, but a DO) and he totally fixed me!  Turned out I had a sheared pelvis and he spent about an hour realigning me etc and I am now pain free.  His approach was not the "back cracking/twisting" but more pressure points, stretches etc.  I was a total skeptic at first bc the office is more of the holistic feel, but am so glad I took someone's advice and saw him. 
  • If you go the chiro route, I'd look for someone who has experience with pregnancy and hip/SI issues. I used a chiro last time (with similar pain) until an adjustment that really didn't feel right.

    Have you done any prenatal yoga? I find I have a few poses that really help. Child's pose, modified pigeon, squats, cat/cow.... some ones to try.

  • Chiro! My hip gets so messed up in just a week. I would be a cripple from hip pain if it wasn't for seeing the chiro.

  • My Ob today told me mine (petite) women will have hip/pelvic pain worse because they don't have as much room for the baby to grow. Yay... :(
    But it's completely worth it.
  • im 34 weeks pregnant with second child. 
    For the first pregnancy, i saw a chiro throughout. (make sure the chiro knows how to handle expecting mothers!!) For this pregnancy, the chiro did not seem to help so I tried maternity yoga and osteopathy. I find the osteopathy more gentle on the body and yoga helps physically and mentally. I am now hip pain free!!  
  • Ditto to the chiro... The relief was almost immediate. I can now sit, sleep, & walk comfortably - So worth it.  Good luck!

    I'm short and medium build, with sorta wide hips. My hips were super wide in 3rd tri and for birth but they hurt like allgetout! It's almost 17 months later and I still have hip pain, but it is much, much better than it was during 3rd tri.

    IME here is what works: 1. lots of pillows for support, between your knees, behind you, in front of you, the part about this that sucks is walling yourself back in with pillows after every nighttime pee. 2. Play with your mattress topper, I had the memory foam on and I agree, it was too soft. Wool was better for me. I got a used "cuddle ewe" for cheap and it was much better than the foam. 3. Yoga. There is a great Prenatal DVD with shiva Rae that I loved. It was hard to finish sometimes but it was great for loosening up everything. I still do it in place of my regular yoga practice when I am on the rag. 4. Have your baby, I know it's easier said than done, I'm just saying that it got better after DD was out. 5. Keep the pillows. I don't have to have as many as I did before DD but I still sleep with a flattish pillow behind me while I nurse her at night.

    I have been to the chiro a few times during and after pregnancy but I don't go on the regular. I'm sure that regular visits would help too, so I'll encourage you along with the PP's to give it a whirl.

  • I just want to also add, Tylenol is really quite safe for you and the baby. I was very anti-medicine during my first pregnancy until my Doctor explained to me how much harder I was making it on myself and the baby by NOT taking it for pain.....one of those doing more harm than good kind of things?

    this pregnancy is a lot more painful, especially my hips, and I'm still not a fan of popping a lot of pills but when it's really bad, I'd rather give my body relief and the ability to relax not just for my sake, but especially the baby.
