Any of you seen dr sanfillipo down at Magee? I am seeing him September 6th and was wondering what to expect! I always see female drs (in OB and PCP practice) so this is new for me!

I'm not in your area but I understand your hesitation(nervousness?) about seeing a male doctor. I was a little nervous at first too because I've only seen one OB who was a woman. However, at the first appointment our REs (both male) have been very caring and nice. They are professionals and I ended up feeling very comfortable.
Also, if you're worried about modesty mine have a paper skirt thing for your lap. The doctor doesn't really look much; just enough to find where the vag cam goes! I was very nervous for the HSG because I knew he would need to be down there more, but the nurse got me all set up so he really didn't have to spend too much time.
I don't know if that's the advice/stories you were looking for but you mentioned only seeing female Drs so I guessed that's what you meant. I would try not to worry about it! good luck!

Thanks @catlover790 ! I appreciate it. I just feel like I trust female drs more because I feel like they can relate to me to something.. But I'm open to a man.
And dr sanfillipo seems to have many many years under his belt so I was curious to see what peoples experiences were like!

Oops! I misinterpreted then, sorry! I've never thought of it like that actually. My one RE went through IF with his wife so I figure he understands what it feels like (I'm not sure what their diagnosis was). I guess I figure if they have studied and gone through the extra work to be a RE and maybe haven't dealt with IF they still have had many experiences with it and care about it to have wanted to become a RE.

@NariaDreaming That is hilarious!! I bet the students thought it was funny too!!
My DH said something about "making a baby" and I said well in our case it takes 3 people. He looked at me like I was crazy, and I said "you, me, and the Dr!". He was not amused.

I don't know your particular doctor either, but I had similar qualms about going to a male RE. I have to say, the nurses get whatever is going on down there at the time, but the RE gets a perfectly manicured hooha (DH hasn't realized yet that the RE gets better treatment in that department than he does, lol).
My experience was that the male RE was way more sensitive and attuned to my body and emotional needs, I think actually because he is not a woman and prides himself in being empathetic. For the HSG, I barely opened my legs, just not wanting to splay them out for a guy until he said I needed to open wider I guess, but he never said anything, just worked with it, haha.
Good luck!

I had always insisted on a female gynecologist and going to the RE was the first time I'd had a male doctor for that. But I quickly got used to that and at least four of the male doctors at that practice have been down there and two of the female and all the female nurses, LOL. You get used to it. My specific RE isn't quite as gentle (but not the worst) and some of the nurses are not. But my RE's nurse and some of the other male REs are super gentle. It just depends on the person I guess!

There is a PGH thread way way back in this group and Dr. San was def mentioned! If I knew an easy way to find it I would attach a link! I saw Dr. Collins at Magee and although I liked him I switched to Jones Institute for insurance reasons and I LOVE it so much more than Magee!
