am I the only lame-o

who isn't having a party for lo's birthday? My family reunion is the week after and I don't have any IRL friends so I don't see much of a point in a party. We may just go out to eat somewhere then have dessert. I just worry I may regret not doing something bigger.

  • I agree with @petey1106‌ . Celebrate in a small way at the reunion. Great photo opps with all your family around!

  • I'm actually thinking we'll skip the party next year. I think we might trade off party one year, family outing the next year. Not necessarily a big trip, just something like a zoo, museum, children's museum, water park, etc.
  • I've yet to throw a big party and have zero regrets.

We celebrate with immediate family and cake and sing happy birthday. It's small and perfect for us.

I will leave it up to the big one next year when he turns 5. If he wants a party, we'll have one and invite friends.

  • I think your plan sounds just as great

No party here.  A month before we'll be doing a vacation with my parents and siblings who live far away and we'll have a little cake and open presents while there.  Then my MIL is coming (again lives far away) the week of his birthday to see him.  But we won't really be having a "party".  At this age the party is more for hte parents... so if you don't want one, don't do it. I think spending family time and making memories will be just as good.

  • I sort of wish we were skipping the party and having a family day. I think you will have fun!
  • We're taking or LO to a water park...
And we're only paying for 10 tickets.
So only a few members of the family will come.
BUT WE Also set up another day for cake smash. And opening gifts.

This for us too. We may do a big party for DS1 next year (he will be 4) if he asks for one but until then we just have a special dinner and cake with just us and a special outing. No regrets. We have tons of little friends we could invite (I'm really active with a moms group here) but I just don't want to bother. I was thinking about doing the party and bounce house thing for the big one this year...but I'm going to put that off for another year.

I think it may be different if we lived near family.

  • There will only be 9 people at DD's "party", but I'm still doing a theme and a nice cake. I think it's worth it to celebrate it in a special way, whatever that may be.

  • I'm in the same boat. I feel bad, I still don't know what the hell we will be doing.

This baby is due any day now, and I just can't see myself throwing a party. I'm definetly going to her her some pretty awesome gifts though.

Yours sound genius! I just might do the same.

  • We're doing a party, but it's only family and a few friends. Unfortunately, DH's immediate family alone is 7 people. : (  I'm not doing this every year, though.

  • We're having a family only "party" - it will be 8 people (plus LO) at my parents' house (they live nearby and have a great outdoor space) with lunch, a cake, some decorations, and a cute dress for LO.  Do whatever works for your family!

  • Were doing a family party at my grand parents assisted living center so my grandpa can be there. Its going to be my grand parents, my parents, my sisters and their fanilies, one of my cousins(were super close), bf and. Well eat food, and cake let bentley open presents and visit.

Dont worry about not doing a big party if thats not your thing

  • thanks ladies! I was just feeling bad since it seemed like everyone else is getting so excited for a party. We just moved and are short on time and money so it just doesn't make sense to spend money on a party for just a few people.

We're not doing a party either! We're going into Boston and taking her to the aquarium, out to dinner, and cake at home after. Families were just being a bit too pushy so we decided to do something just for the three of us. @rooftop, you're not a lame-o, I'm sure your LO will be happy with whatever you do for her :) And, my LO's pre birthday present is going to be getting a pic with Khal Drogo at comic-con Boston. Hehe ;-)
