Baby wearing with twins

I don't really have much interest in tandem wearing. Just feels like it would be way too much. Although I would like to hear if anyone has experience with it, positive or negative.

My question is more about single wearing. To me it feels kind of pointless wearing one and pushing the other in a double stroller. I have gone for walks wearing one while the other stays home with DH.

Have any MoMs done a lot of wearing? If so, what would be the situation? Would you and SO wear one of each? (DH is not a huge fan since he gets very hot)

Re: Baby wearing with twins

  • We go out a lot each wearing one- it's great for places that aren't stroller friendly (like the beach or the back yard) or crowded places where you're worried someone will want to touch one. I'll occasionally wear one while the other sleeps, or go downtown with one. I'm not sure what I'd do without our carriers.

  • The babies are only 3 weeks old, however, my main carrier use so far has been if one is fussy while I'm making dinner or doing dishes. That sort of thing. We also have a toddler at home, so this keeps more people happy.
  • I tandem wore them a couple times but it wasn't comfortable or convenient enough (for me) to do often; I wore one on my front in the Moby and one on my back in the Ergo. Made for good pics at least. ;)

    Other wearing situations:

    * wore one and put the other in a shopping cart as an alternative to shopping w/a double stroller, or for stores that didn't have double carts once they were old enough to sit in carts
    * wore an extra fussy baby to keep my hands free while making dinner or to more easily take care of the other as needed/multitask
    * DH and I each wore one (around the house when they both wanted to be held and we had things to do), or occasionally out and about

Also, if I was out w/both in a double stroller and one got fussy, it was handy to have a wrap/carrier with me so I could wear him until he settled down. That didn't happen often though; usually if I had them in the double stroller, they both stayed in it.

One other situation where it's helpful is if you're in tight spaces where a double stroller doesn't fit well; if you still own a single stroller (which I definitely recommend as an option!), you can wear one and put the other in the single stroller. I found that very handy at times in certain stores, our small-town post office, etc.

  • My DH and I have both worn one in an Ergo ( most recently at Yellowstone at 4 months on hikes/trails where the stroller was impractical.) I had both in the moby around the house but would never have tried to do much. I didn't feel stable enough. When one can sit in a cart I plan to put one in the basket and carry one.

  • When they were tiny and wanted to be held all the time I would wear one if the other was sleeping. One baby is a break so that was my down time. They rarely slept at the same time unless one was in a carrier.

  • I use my Ergo most often to carry the kids to and from the car when I'm not going to use a stroller - the double carts are never out in the cart corrals, so I Ergo one, put the other twin and older DS in a regular cart, and switch when I get to the store. Or I make DS walk and do the shopping that way.

  • There were times that wearing was more convenient (if there wasn't going to be a lot of space).  What worked best for me was an Ergo on the front and a Snuggli on the back.
