Birth Story of Benjamin James

On July 29th I woke up and got ready for work. I was now 40w 1d and feeling annoyed. I have had period like cramps pretty much since 30 weeks on and this morning was no different. I drove DD to daycare and off I went. I was sitting at my desk and realized these cramps were regular and timetable. I thought they were weird though because it was only on the bottom not at the top of my uterus. I just told myself no this isn't labor plus I had a mid morning doctors appointment so wasn't too worried. I got to my appointment got on the monitors. I was 6 minutes apart but doctor said they weren't too strong yet. He checked me I was 100% effaced and 3 cm dilated! He said oh it will be today or tomorrow don't of back to work. I went home and took a bath. Slightly stronger contractions. My dad offered to come pick me up but I thought I was fine. Drove myself to grab lunch. While I was in the drive thru I knew labor was coming soon. Got to my parents house. My sister picked up DD from school and came over. I tried telling my dad to call my mom. He was a bit naive so my sister stepped in. My mom got home and took me in. We arrived at the hospital at 3pm. I was 6cm. They started my IV and got my epidural in within the hour. I quickly got to 10 cm. my hospital allows you to labor down to make pushing easier. Around 630 pm it was pushing time. My DS was born at 724 pm weighing 8lbs 4 oz and 21 inches! I did get a second degree episiotomy but healthy baby. My DD is so in love with him! While doing this on my own while dealing with the divorce process is tough I couldn't be any happier! He is such a good baby so far and easy to handle! He basically eats and sleeps. He hardly cries! Loving this time off away from work to enjoy both of my kids!
