FTM.... help... advise.

edited August 2014 in December 2014 Moms
I am was looking at someone else's question about a car seat.
So I thought I would ask about the one I am looking at. I was thinking about getting the Eddie Brauer Surefit infant car seat.
I have been looking at review, a few have been helpful... but.. it's so overwhelming!!!!
They are saying that it is heavy...
Soooo..... What are you carrying & why do you like it? Need some opinions.

Re: FTM.... help... advise.

  • I personally hate every Eddie Bauer we've trie. I suggest hitting up a Babies R Us, they will let you try them in your car.
  • Loading the player...
  • I have the Maxi Cosi Mico. It's supposedly one of the lightest ones in the market.
  • I got to pick it up and stuff at target. I like the look of it, and the padding... but it was heavy.
  • I'm also a FTM so no personal advice, but I have a couple of friends who had Eddie Bauer and they told me to get anything but that...they hated them.
  • We have the Chicco Keyfit. It is fairly light weight as far as bucket seats go. Installing the base is super fast and easy. It consistantly gets top reviews for crash testing. If also has pretty decent reviews as far as chemical off-gasing.
Also, most of the big name strollers have adaptors so you can connect the seat to the stroller (in case you want to skip the travel system).
  • We have a Maxi Cosi Mico, as pp suggested. It's only 7.5-8 pounds empty, and believe me, you will notice the difference between an 8 lb carrier and an 11 lb one! I had a Graco SnugRide 32 with my daughter and hated it. It was SO heavy and bulky!

  • I agree with PPs...I would go to BBB or BRU and go check them out in person. I'm a FTM, so no experience, but from testing them in the stores, we went with the Britax infant carrier and car seat. The infant carrier was pretty reasonable price wise.

  • No experience with EB, but if reviews plus people on here are saying they're heavy, I'd skip that seat if that's an issue for you.  I went with the Graco Snugride 35 for DS and was really happy with it.  It was light and really easy to use.

Like PP's said, I'd keep doing research and then go try some out (pick it up, practice buckling it up, etc) to find one that works for you.

You have to think you have to add the weight of the baby too. I'm not a fan of that one but loved the Gracco snug and ride with DD and getting one for this LO too. It's so much easier to bring whole car seat inside and buckle and unbuckle baby especially in the winter.

  • Britax all the way; it's the most expensive but it's the number one carseat manufacturer in the US and Canada and shows.  We've never had any issues and I have total peace of mind knowing my child is riding in one.  The seats are tanks, protected from every angle and the baby carrier wasn't overly heavy to me.

Bonus is the extra bases you can buy so it's an easy snap to move the seat between vehicles

We have a Chaperone with 3 bases and 3 convertibles, 2 Pavs and a Blvd. I'm a Britax fan but your statement is a little ridiculous. Britax seats are very user friendly and have great features  but there are plenty of other great seats too.  And they are definitely not the most expensive.  Uppababy, Nuna, Peg, Cybex etc- all make very expensive seats with great features.

  • My sister has had two different Eddie Bauer systems and she loved them but I did think they were very heavy to use. That is my only experience with them .

  • I am going keep looking. Thanks for the advise.
I didn't think they were cheap... they are $139(on sale) just the seat at Target. And I think they are made by the same brand as Safety 1st and Costco.
Just going to countine to researching. & talk to daddy to see his advise. Lol. He hopefully will be carrying it too. :-)
