I am lactose intolerant and generally just dislike milk. The past two appointments i forgot to ask what i can take. I just had my appt today (4got to ask) and my next appt isn't until the middle of sept since i have to be in Toronto for my daughters neurology appts. Lately my nails are breaking non stop and have ridges in them.. Anyone taking calcium? What kind is best if so

add a cup of chopped Kale to a smoothie every day. will give you 100 percent of your daily calcium requirements, and your body will be able to absorb it far better than a typical vitamin.

Great for kids too! Smoothie is great way to do it because then you can't taste the kale.

  • I am severely lactose intolerant and i take Caltrate D every day (even when not pregnant). My OB was thrilled I continued along with my Flintstone vitamins( I did these in place of prenatals).

I had osteopenia due to celiac, and I still have issues with nutritional deficiencies (my body doesn't absorb nutrients well from food). Between my prenatal and my supplement, I take 1000mg daily. You are not supposed to go over 1200mg per day. I would ask your doctor though. They can check your levels - mine are borderline low and I mean borderline (it was exactly at the low level of the normal range). Edit - it is 1200, not 1600.

  • I eat a ton of leafy greens never been a prob before but now like i said my nails have long length wise ridges and it will be 6-7 weeks before i see my OB again
  • I started taking a gummy calcium supplement for the same reason as you. I don't take it every day. I'm gonna ask my ob what's best at my next appt
  • @CuppyCakes721‌ let me know what you find out as you will likely get to your appt before i get to mine
  • Definitely. My next appt is Monday.
  • I take a calcuim supplement daily.  Its been cleared by my midwife.
  • My doctor told me to pop a couple tums if I can't keep up with my milk/ yogurt/ cheese intake.
