November 2014 Moms

california fruit recall

Hi everyone, I haven't posted in a long time. Its been crazy with work and also having a 10 month old and on top of moving.
Anyhow I just read on the news that there is a California fruit recall on Nectarines, Plums, Peaches and Pluots because they may be contaminated with Listeria. I just wanted to pass on the info. Here is a link https://kplr11.com/2014/08/04/california-fruit-recall-being-expanding/
Here I have been careful about the meats and cheeses I have been eating.

Re: california fruit recall

  • Thanks for sharing for any expectant mothers that may have missed the previous post about this! :)

  • @lissydee‌ , do you have that link by chance?
  • If it is "old news," why not just skip over the post instead of taking time to comment on it? I am sure the woman who originated the post was only trying to be helpful and probably just heard of this news for the first time herself. Some of the women on this board are so incredibly rude to others and it's really not necessary. Isn't this suppsed to be a support group for women expecting in November 2014? Please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
  • I really was just curious. I never heard of it either and just wanted to read about it.
  • In my opinion, the comment "old news!" was rude, but you did later explain yourself, almost an hour and a half later.

  • And you just proved my point. :-)
  • My panties aren't in a bunch. "Fitting in" is not my thing. I didn't find it offensive, I didn't even originate the post, but I did think the initial reponse to the post was rude.
  • Thank for the heads up!

Who are you? You think it's ok to just come on here and call everyone rude when you've spent zero time contributing to this community? Ok then!

  • What would you like to know about me? Who are you is a loaded question. I have been "lurking" since I found out I was expecting my rainbow baby. I am due 11/4/14, I am having a healthy baby boy, my first one actually...I'm pretty excited about this. I have 2 teenage daughters and a step-daughter. I did not call everyone rude. I just thought a comment on this thread seemed rude, in my opinion. I was just trying to understand it. Not grab attention or be stuck up.  I have commented on threads before. I have never formally introduced myself. I just honestly felt bad for the person that originated this post. If you ladies wanna bring on the snarky, sarcastic posts in my direction because I stated my opinion as many women on here do, then so be it. I just thought this group was here to support eachother, not put eachother down.

  • The affected fruits have been off store shelves for 2 weeks now, if not more.

It's not at all relevant anymore. Unless you have some weirdo symptoms you can't figure out and think you have listeria.
The thing is when product is recalled it can be in consumers homes for a lot longer beyond when it is removed from commerce. People can have products frozen at home for long periods (so in this case think pies and tarts bought from stores, people may cut up fruit & have frozen to use in smoothies etc). Its not at all uncommon for recalls to be issued for product that is beyond it's sell by date for that reason. Finding out that a product is contaminated after it expires is not a reason for the FDA to say a recall shouldn't be issued etc.

  • I appreciate the PSAs, old or not. I thought the "old news" comment was rude too and I'm on here all the time. It just comes across as sounding like what OP posted is worthless, which it isn't. I doubt @lissydee meant it that way, but it is how I read it at first too.

You give support, you get support. It's not a board of love and hugs for anyone to just come and grab at and assume they will get.

And yes, it is annoying in a post like this, which is instilling fear in our already overly-worried minds, to bring up a 2 week old news alert in which most of the fruit has already been removed.

Well, if you were lurking around, as you said, you would have appreciated it even more when it was first announced 2 weeks ago.

And adding smileys doesn't make your unnecessary WK here any sweeter :x See? :D

not only all of this, but this particular news link was just crap reporting.  They left out a lot of information regarding this expansion to the recall.  Such as that listeria was confirmed on nectarines, and on one peach and they are expanding the recall by 5 extra days because the cannot confirm when exactly the contaminated fruits were packaged (fwiw, it takes days to grow out bacteria on mediums).  The article could have also gone further to share that there have been NO reported listeriosis cases as of yet from this contamination issue.  Oh and that this recall affects FAR more grocers than what was mentioned in this article.

its one thing to re-report of a recall, but its a complete other to omit some pretty important information.  Failing to do so can cause either needless hysteria (bc there have been no reported cases of listeriosis to date) and/or a false sense of security.

  • I smile with my posts because I can. :-) I don't have any more time to devote to this whose balls are bigger debate. In the same way the "old news" post was not meant to be rude, I am sure the original poster was not trying to create mass hysteria and was just trying to be helpful and spread the word. I responded to this post versus the one about this subject previously because I am a "white knighting" apparently. With that being said, I really wish all of you ladies a happy & healthy remainder of your pregnancies and a healthy and safe delivery of your little ones!
