LO not eating the same

So she's eating some, but nowhere near her norm. And I don't know if it's because she's not hungry? Or suddenly hates bottles?

She'll refuse the bottle after a couple minutes. She's maybe only getting 60-100 ml per meal, much less than usual. We've tried 4 different bottles and different flows.

She's also been a bit constipated and pear and prune juice are apparently unsatisfactory.

thoughts, ideas? Experiences? All are appreciated.

She's still happy and smiles, plays and naps (sort of) as per usual, so I may be making something out of nothing but appreciate any feedback.

she will be 6 months in 10 days.

  • If she's otherwise happy and normal, I wouldn't worry much.  Just keep offering.

  • Lo did this a few times. He usually drinks 160ml, but dropped to 80-100ml. His pedi told me to bring him in IF he was under 18oz a day for a few days.

He has no interest in eating if he is constipated.

I'm not sure if you're feeding solids yet, but the first time lo began to drink less, our pedi suggested introducing solids.

I also stretched his feedings over an hour, letting him stop drinking every 15-20 minutes.

Hopefully this helped. I hope you get some answers soon.

Thank you! We've tried a few solids, just to see how she was with them but didn't seem overly interested, but maybe it's worth another shot now.

We have been stretching the feed too, sometimes she'll take more, often not.

  • I have heard that this may be a sign of teething. Some babies want to eat more because it feels good, and some babies want to eat less because it hurts. So maybe that is a possibility.

Maybe. ...her bottom teeth have been through for a month now...but maybe with them growing more they feel funny under her tongue? Or her top ones..... haven't been able to get a good look.

My LO has been eating a bit less too, and seems to want to play with the bottle more than drink from it. We're thinking it may be a combination of teething/distractions.

We're starting solids tonight. Hope that works for both of us if you try again!

Good luck with the solids! Hope it works for both of us too!

  • Twice this has happened and I gave it a few days, then called the pedi.  They said likely teething, but give it a few days and call back.  Both times it was a very minor infection.  I'd monitor for a bit and then call, it can't hurt.

  • From what I understand...the top teeth usually start to break thru 4-8 weeks after the bottom ones do. My LO is teething and her bottle intake has definitely decreased. I hope yours is okay and it's JBBB

  • Like PPs mentioned- our pedi told me that refusing breast or bottle may be a sign of being ready for solids.  Might be worth a shot?
  • My LO is a week away from 6 months and is doing the same thing! Usually eats around 4 oz every two hours during the day and is barely taking 3 every 3-4 hours. Seems happy and content otherwise. Very slowly starting solids. Glad this was posted, and happy to see such good feedback :)
