Help Pregnancy Mask!

Does anyone have pregnancy mask? Have you tried anything that has worked? If so, do share! I have a pregnancy mustache that is not as funny as it sounds. Its dark skin right above my top lip! It fits in with a summer tan at the moment but come this fall I'm afraid it will be very obvious.
I've been using sunscreen religiously and wearing hats to mitigate sun damage making it darker. Help!

    Yeah, I am confused too.

Looks like you are new (first post) so welcome & congrats!

  • I get it every pregnancy and nothing really helps. It's hormonal and fingers crossed, it will disappear after you give birth. Mine did for the most part but not all of it, darn it!! Sun does worsen it so I use sunscreen, wear big sunglasses and floppy sun hats when I can.
  • You really can't treat it until after delivery. The chemicals in the creams just aren't good for baby.
However, I have had good luck with the "Yes to Grapefruit" skin care line which is all natural. My friend used Clinique's spot treatment and loved it.
  • I totally know what you are talking about. Those big dark patches on the face, right? I have that too. So far the best I've come up with is to cover it with makeup and sunscreen and hope it goes away after the baby is born :/

  • @ColeyCannoli‌ what kind of makeup have you been using? I've been so afraid to use my usual concealer because of chemicals.

I've been using Origins which is made of "natural" ingredients (exactly what that means, I am not 100% on). It's kinda pricey but it works well on my sensitive skin. Honestly, I doubt your concealer or sunscreen will hurt your baby as long as you don't eat it but if you are worried ask your OB or midwife about it. I'm sure they will either say everything is okay or have a list of brands that are okay. I'll have to look into it myself now that you've peaked my interest.

  • I just worry about the chemicals being absorbed into my blood through my skin, that obviously does get shared with LO. Same reasoning along the line of not using topical acne treatments. Lol I guess I should be adding this to the pregnancy fears thread.
  • i have it too and had it even before pregnancy.  It was diagnosed as Melasma and I knew it would get worse with pregnancy, so at least I as mentally prepared but even having known it would happen, it still sucks to see it getting worse over time.

There is nothing we can do to treat it until after the pregnancy, but in the meantime, I am using a lot of sunscreen because for me, the heat and sun make it worse.

I plan to get a blue chemical peel after pregnancy to treat it.

  • I got terrible spots on my nose during my third pregnancy, they have faded now, but I can still see them :(

This pregnancy I invested in several old lady style hats and I wear them when I'm outside.

  • Wow thanks ladies. I've used koji root, a natural skin lightener but don't see a difference. I wear eye makeup but have never really used concealer. I have some natural products I'll use when my skin starts to lighten up in the fall. Right now I'm living by the Cindy Crawford rule "never point out your flaws" most people never notice them!
I have rosacea too, as long as I don't eat dairy it stays dormant so I don't indulge in the creamy goodness of dairy!
Thanks so much to everyone, I've been on a different pregnancy site, just found this one and like it so much more. Classy ladies over here.
  • Vitamin c serum works beautifully!
  • This guy in the middle of my cheek is my new friend. Figure I'll worry about it with my dermatologist in a few months. Disregard spot near the bottom of the photo - freaked me out, buts it's the shadow of my earring!

  • Good sunscreen is always a must, even without this BS on my face! Sitting by the pool with my two older sons with SPF 50 on and a hat. Well I do appreciate the thoughts and hearing from other pregnant women who have this too. Its nice not to feel isolated.
  • Bliss Steep Clean mask. It's not cheap, but it's the only thing I've found that actually lightens the discoloration.
