Anyone working out at 35 weeks?

Is there a point when you should stop walking on a treadmill? I do not want to do anything I'm not supposed to...

Re: Anyone working out at 35 weeks?

  • I would ask your doctor if you are concerned, but I think if you feel good and you listen to your body you can do what's best for you... I am at 33 weeks and still doing the elliptical almost daily for about 30-60 minutes (I do 10-15 min at a time during the day) and yoga and walks every morning.

  • I was told that I could keep walking every day as long as I didn't push myself too much. Listen to your body, take breaks as needed, and drink lots of water. I also do prenatal yoga once a week.

However, make sure your doctor knows about your exercise routine and is ok with it based on your history.

  • Ditto everyone else - definitely check with your doctor just to be sure. I'm doing two aerobic dance classes and yoga, which is what I've been doing the whole time. (But still eating way too much junk food, so it evens out...) Some weeks are harder than others, though, so then I may skip a class.

  • Last year a girl at the gym I go to was running on the treadmill the morning she was being induced LOL!  It's all about what you are comfortable with and how you are feeling.  I'm still doing the elliptical three times a week and walks another day or two depending on the weather.

  • Just listen to your body. I'm still running at 34 weeks - I do about 20-30 min every other day. I also did a 5k this past weekend, and am signed up for another one at 36.5 weeks. I feel better when I run!

  • I'm 34 weeks and walk daily will swim, jump on elliptical and do prenatal yoga videos throughout the week too. I def listen to my body though, some days just need to take it easier.

  • If you're having a normal healthy pregnancy and your body is still allowing you to get those workouts in, I can't imagine how that would be harmful for you. Especially if you're just walking or jogging on a treadmill. Walking is so encouraged during pregnancy as it is, I don't think doing it indoors vs. outdoors makes a difference. :)

  • "Working out"?  What is this concept you talk about?  I chase a toddler and a crazy dog around most of the day.  =D
  • I'm lazy. Good on you for exercising.

  • The last time I went to the gym, I did some arm and leg weight machines and 20ish minutes on the elliptical. I felt like the child was going to fall out onto the floor. I personally don't care for the treadmill because I always feel like I'm off balance. I decided to put my gym time on hold for now and head back shortly after delivery for some mild weights until I'm cleared for full throttle.

Walking is one of the best exercises to do at the end of pregnancy because it tones your uterus and lengthens your pelvic floor. If you are a healthy person there is no reason to stop walking. I try to walk at least a few miles outside every day. I also try to cycle and jog weekly because it makes me feel good and my doctor says its fine.

  • I'm 34 weeks and I've been swimming a few laps every other morning and going for small walks in the afternoon. I just stay really hydrated and listen to my body. Talk to your doctor if you're really concerned.

  • I love when I go to the gym and "beat" others. I do a bike that records yours and other's rides and I am still in the top 15 by the end. Or the other day when a meat head was next to me who kept looking at my screen and I was going faster than him and at a higher level. It is really important though to listen to your body and if it hurts stop.

  • Just taking daily walks with the pup!
  • I totally fell off track with my workouts. Before I was going to the gym at least a couple times a week for weight training, but I have come up with all the excuses in the last couple months such as it's too hot, I'm too tired, I'll just go tomorrow. Instead, DH and I go on walks at least a couple times a week and I still walk around a lot at work when I can. I ignore coworkers who tell me to get off my feet and only pay attention to my body!

  • I had my 36 week appt yesterday and my OB encouraged me to continue walking every day. I walk outside so she told me to keep it to around the block or 'before i get too hot' - as long as your doctor says it is ok then you should be good :)

  • I'm not at 35w yet, but am still lifting weights daily with cardio thrown in 3x per week. My MW and I have had several conversations about my activity level, and that I started lifting at 20 some weeks, and I agree with everyone else that it should be a conversation with your doctor, but shouldn't be an issue.

  • I'm a little over 33 weeks and am still taking a 2.5-3 mile walk with my husband every evening. We skipped our walk the other night just because the baby was in a weird position and walking was really uncomfortable for me. I think it's important to listen to your body anytime, but especially during pregnancy.

If your pregnancy hasn't had any complications, walking on a treadmill every day should actually be good for you and shouldn't be a problem at all. But as always, if you're concerned, talk to your doctor.
  • Thank you everyone for all of your advice!!
