Check In: Diet/exercise is going really well for me. Had a Dr's appt yesterday and he was really pleased with my numbers and said I don't need meds (you might remember last week he wanted me to start glyburide and I said no because my fasting numbers were in the 70's). So I'm happy we are on the same page now! Also this week my fundal height was only 1 week ahead, vice the 3 weeks ahead it was last time. yay!
QOTW: I have no idea where the summer went. In terms of fall plans, I go back to work after 6 weeks so I have very small goals for the fall: 1. take a shower every day 2. workout 4x per week. We will see how that goes :0)

Well, I'm still experimenting with the diet and trying to see what works. For the most part my numbers have been staying low. Then yesterday, with morning sickness back, I could only get fries down, that made my numbers jump.
I did make fish tacos with mango salsa and my numbers stayed pretty low. I used a small whole wheat tortilla, loaded up on the fish and salsa. (salsa had mango, tomatoes, peppers, onions, garlic and cilantro)

I plan on introducing the baby to the great movies that come out that time of year (yay Hocus Pocus!) and getting out for some nice walks with the nice cool weather and the leave changes. I love every stereotype of autumn!
Check In: The diet...augh. Sometimes it just sucks the life and joy out of me. Numbers are fluxuating so we shall see
QOTW: Where did summer go? Well, with it already August, any plans for the autumn season (well, aside from the obvious one of baby arriving)? The damn summer flew away, no idea where. Autumn season brings a new position on top of the 3rd trimester. Awesome. The only other plan is camping in the 3rd week of October. The twins will be here by then and it is a huge Halloween gathering at the campground. We shall see how that goes
Married to M and proud mothers to Olivia and Elise (8/19/2014) and to our fur-babies: Capone (pitbull), Jax and Atticus (cats)
Summer did go by fast. We are still in the triple digits. So while kids are already going back to school. It is still hot as heck. Although I have been enjoying the monsoon storms that are coming through and cooling things off for as few hours. As for fall. Looking forward to the cooler weather and maybe making a trip up to the mountains to see some color changes. At least from I hit the no traveling more then an hour from the hospital. Which it already takes me 25 to 30 minutes to get there for an appointment.
Diet is going well. I actually feel that it is easier to stay within my readings this time around that it was with DS1. We had our baby moon over the weekend and even though I indulged somewhat (crème brulee with dinner two nights in a row), almost all my readings were within tolerance. It's nice to know that I can still indulge occasionally.
Summer did fly by. No plans for autumn, except getting ready to go out on maternity leave and enjoying time with DS1 while he is still an only child.

Meh...Some things work and some don't. Dinner last night sent my numbers high and I guess I ate my snack (1 scrambled egg and 1 banana) too early (8:30pm) so my fasting number was over 140 this morning. But my other two numbers today have been around 110. It is mind boggling!
I have had some Sweet Freedom Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream (18 grams of carbs for 1/2 cup) which has been nice.
QOTW: Where did summer go? Well, with it already August, any plans for the autumn season (well, aside from the obvious one of baby arriving)? Getting geared up for college football season. I will not be attending any games but will be watching at home. Honestly, I don't have anything else planned. Trying to not get ahead of myself being a FTM. I am only about 7 weeks out from having this baby.
Our weather doesn't cool off until the end of October, so it's still going to be summer here for a while. The only plans we have are to let the grandparents visit.
@ss265 I didn't because I was getting ready for work and just felt so deflated. But I feel ok about it since my post-breakfast were actually good because those are normally too high as well.
I will talk to the nurse about it on Thursday. SHe was very helpful when I called her last week!

Have you ever made your own ice cream? Maybe playing around with different fat sources, like coconut milk instead of dairy, might make a difference. My husband got me an ice cream maker for Christmas one year, and it has been my favorite gift from him ever! Also, I have great results with the So Delicious no sugar added ice cream, although it is expensive. Just beware the erythritol in large quantities!
Just got confirmation a little while ago that I did not pass my 2 hour GTT. I took the test last Thursday and had to hound my Dr.'s office for results. Glad there was such urgency in letting me know!
Anyway, apparently they don't want to see your number above 140 at the 2 hour mark and I came in at 177 so the nurse said I am Glucose Intolerant (Stupid question but is that synonymous with Gestational Diabetes?)
The nurse said that someone from the office will call me, hopefully tomorrow, to schedule an appointment with a nurse (think she specializes in GD) and/or a nutritionist.
Still kind of shocked even though I've suspected that I've had undiagnosed GD in previous pregnancies. I'm afraid to eat!
Does anyone know if we ever did a discussion about what you eat in a typical day? Just feel overwhelmed.

We're in New England and are usually pretty good about getting out to the Apple Orchards/Farms in the fall. We usually do the whole thing, apple picking, hay rides, apple cider donuts, etc. but I'm thinking we'll probably skip it this year. I'm not going to want to walk around in September all ready to bust, and I probably won't want to take a newborn out there either...kind of a bummer for the kids...who knows, maybe I can just get dh to take them without me and the baby.
I do 30 carbs at breakfast, 30 mid morning snaxk, 45 for lunch, 30 afternoon snack, 45 dinner, and 30 bed time snack. Add in 1 to 3 ounce of lean protein and each "meal" and non starchy veggies.
They told me to avoid milk and fruit in the morning because that is when my numbers are highest.
Everybody reacts differently and you just have to keep trying to figure out works for you. It can be super frustrating but the diet itself is not bad and as you see you basically eat all day so I am never starving and it has really helped me control my weight gain.
Good luck!
Did my GTT 3 hour test last week. Fasting and first numbers were good second two were elevated. This is all new to me first baby. Going to a dietitian/diabetes educator Tuesday, not sure what to expect.
DR doesn't feel I need medication but I should be on a diet ( start pre preg weight 114 only at 128 now 31 weeks) so I guess I am lucky. Will take any input ;-) already made changes and started eating a Paleo diet on my own till meeting.
Just get used to the thought of poking your finger tips quite a few times a day. The dietician is a really big help.
I find I have to eat less carbs than allowed to make my numbers work.
It is frustrating but I just keep playing around with my diet to see what works and what doesn't.
I have a question: anyone know of a website that sort of breaks down the carb/protein/fat ratios of prepared foods? For example, say I had pizza at home and wanted splurge and have a slice...I have no idea how to figure out how many points carbs (dough), how many points protein (Cheese) and how many points fat (oil?) it is. Is there any magic 'cheat sheet' out there for this?

I saw the dietician on Friday and have a packet that explains what I need to eat and when and gives a few examples of what food is considered a carb, protein or fat but it really makes it hard to actually plan a meal. So far I've just been putting together random, unrelated foods to fulfill my requirements..PITA.
Thanks!
@cmcookaln, a good rule of thumb is to pair 2 servings of protein (14g of protein) with 1 serving of carbs (15g of carbs). I eat what I used to eat but if possible, I look up nutrition content ahead of time - a lot of restaurants have nutrition information on their websites. If I can't look up nutrition, I just load up on meat and veges and reduce the carb portion.
Soy milk is also my secret weapon - I get the Silk light soy milk which only has 5g of carbs but 6g of protein. If I think I am eating something bad, I pair it with a glass of soy milk to give me more protein. For example, try eating the ice cream bars on their own - if your fasting numbers are high, pair it with a glass of soy milk and see if the numbers get better. The initial hump is rough but once you understand what you can/can't eat, it gets a lot easier.
Anyway, a friend at work who has it took me through her food diary and finger prick and I was surprised to see her do it on the side of her finger, not pad (which is less painful she says). Does everyone else do that? I still have NO appointment to see the GDP specialist at my dr office as she is 'overbooked' and have been searching out a nutritionist on my own (that takes insurance!). I also had to call and call for results and was high for 2 of 4 of draws. Seems imperfect but that's just my stubbornness talking.
I'm hopeful for a less painful prick....
