Work at Home Moms

Hello Ladies,

I am currently in the process of starting up my own business (court transcription). I was wondering what you ladies do with your LOs while you are working? Or do you have any advice in general?

My work will require my full attention and I know I couldn't watch P and get work done. She also only naps 40 minutes some days.

Re: Work at Home Moms

  • Last year I had a nanny watch N during the days. Next year we will likely use daycare. I treated it like any other full time job.

  • I work from home evenings after the kids go to bed. I used to work some during naptime but not since my oldest stopped taking them. Sometimes I have to make calls during the day and I just try to get both kids to play quietly then call from the next room. Usually they are loud anyway. I would need child care if I had to work daytime hours.
Basically this. DH has one of the days off when I work from home, so he will help out, but I push all my phone calls into nap time, and then enter work into the computer at night.

  • I work from home twice per week and boys are at daycare.

  • I guess I will have to do evening work until I know how my business is going to be doing. I have never had P in daycare and the closest day care centre is a good 20 minutes from me. I'm not sure how I feel about home daycare at the moment (just a personal preference). I will look into a nanny perhaps but I'm not sure that would be cost effective. Maybe I will have to consider my MIL :-S yikes
  • @mufflerlove I use my MIL as well.  She lives a good 30 minutes from me, but will meet me half way.  It can be difficult having family watch her, but you set the tone for the relationship and make sure you can tell when MIL is warn out, or needs to talk.  My MIL loves watching LO!  Let me know if you have any questions or want some advice. You can PM me.
