Child Care Advice - Orlando/Dr. Phillips - New Mom

I'm a new mom, expecting May 8th and I have no idea where to begin in my search for Child Care in the Dr. Phillips/Universal Area. My Husband and I work together, so we figured a center close to work would be the best option for us. Anyone have any advice or recommendations? We would prefer not to have to pay for a full week, as I will be able to work from home at least 1 day a week and my MIL will watch the baby another day each week.

Thanks!

  • I will let you know if we find anything. We are thinking we may go with an in home day care in the area. It seems to be the best bet for the $. Otherwise, it will be Kiddie U on Wallace Rd.

  • Have you looked into sittercity.com they offer babysitting and nanny services that you can choose to use 1 day a week or several. It may be worth checking into. My husband and I live downtown and he is a Firefighter so he is home some days which is why we are thinking of having someone at the house the days he works. I am due in July so just started researching but it might be helpful!

  • Do you want to put LO in a daycare/preschool setting? My mom watched LO last year but she had to go back to work this year. We had DD in Kids R Kids in Apopka and she HATED it and so did we. We found a teacher who is staying at home with her LO and a few other kids. We pay for 4 days a week (500 a month). DH, DD, and myself LOVE her! I'm a teacher also so it's nice that she has all teacher kids. I am expecting a DS in July and we will most likely try to see if she will have room for him when I go back to work in October. I am SO not a daycare center mom. I HATED it!!!!!!! My dd who is such a happy go lucky child would come home whiny, wasn't pooping, wasn't sleeping well while she was at the center. She also got EXTREMELY sick while she was there. She was enrolled for a total of 3 weeks and missed 1.5 weeks due to pink eye, colds, and a fever of over 101.

You can look at Care.com or Craigslist if you are looking for an in home day care center. We also had a bunch of recommendations from people who live in our area. We just looked until we found someone who fit exactly what we wanted and who we felt comfortable with.

  • I became a stay at home mom in October and I LOVED our in home daycare provider. It was a very hard decision to leave her and my oldest still asks if he's going to her house most mornings:). She doesn't do split weeks. She filled one of the two spots we took up but I think she would still take one more. She doesn't take more than 6 at a time. She is in one of the developments by the Dr. Philips park.

I would be more than willing to give you more details and to get you in touch with her if you're interested. Just let me know!

  • We are starting to think that an in home provider would be the best option, not to mention they seem to be cheaper. We actually live in Apopka, but work in the Dr. Phillips area. Do you have any recommendations for the Apopka area?

  • I know this is an old post, but was wondering if you found any type of in home care in the dr Phillips or Windermere area that you would be willing to share. I am also only looking for 4 days a week and haven't found any flexible options yet.
  • I hadn't been on here since May of 2011, but we opted for a daycare center. We are currently at Ladybird Academy on Wallace Rd and love it! They have a part time program there as well.
