Poor kid! I mean, many (maybe most) children are just fine sleeping by themselves in their crib. But if your 13 month old is so distressed that they are crying until they puke...you have to take action. If this were my child, he/she would be sleeping with us until they matured out of it.
My cousin's daughter does this, but she also has a chromosome abnormality (I don't know the specifics, but I believe it's a T3 deletion, which results in a very special needs little girl). I believe her special needs contribute to her inability to calm herself down and fall asleep. She turned 4 in February, and I don't know that she's ever slept through the night.

I agree with PP that they may have to start having the baby sleep with them again. I'd also speak with my dr if this is a new development. It's worth checking into changes in diet, lifestyle, or household dynamic too. At 13 months, we started giving DS pretty much everything we were eating, maybe a food intolerance or allergy is developing, and the baby's in pain after dinner?

Welcome to the world my miracle, we prayed and prayed for you, and we can't believe you're here!
I wouldn't put them on their crib if its that traumatic. dd screamed so bad she got a nose bleed then jumped out (crib was lowered) we got her a toddler bed and she loves it. she occasionally naps in it but she sleeps with us at night.
Yeah, there is no way I could leave if the kid gets to puke stage. as much as I know it builds bad habits and maybe they are playing you, that is just way too traumatic for me. I would have to sleep with them. Either in bed with mom and dad or maybe mom could sleep on a mattress by the crib or something for a while? Either way awful, poor parents.
